Anderkat (from the English under – under, cut – cut, cut) is a general term characterizing the hairdressing textural intervention in the bangs, parietal part of the head, temples and the back of the head. Over the past 100 years, the haircut has changed, but it has always remained in trend among different segments of the population: immigrants, military personnel, intelligentsia, students, creative parties.

And by the 40s, he gained popularity in secular circles in Germany as a symbol of impeccability and neatness. During the same period, the first American hipsters began to wear the 'undercut', as well as Scottish and Irish immigrants – tough guys who formed the legendary old-school street gangs.

In the 50s and 60s, due to changes in fashion trends and the emergence of many sociocultural trends (for example, hippies), the popularity of haircuts declined. However, she could still be seen on the brightest figures of the creative crowd of that era. For example, the famous Elvis Presley hairstyle, which the British also called quiff, is a variation of the 'underkat'.

The next surge in the popularity of haircuts came in the 80s. In the 21st century, the demand for undercut began in 2010 and is still relevant. The reason is not only convenience, but also in the popularization by bohemians – famous actors, athletes and singers who form fashion trends among young people.

Types of haircuts undercut for men

The difference in haircut is due to the length and type of hair. At the same time, the base of the 'underkat' – the contrast between shaved areas and long strands – remains unchanged.

• The short 'undertaking' is the direct heir to the soldier's haircuts of the 1920s. A good continuation of the shaved temples is light unshaven.
• Classic 'Andekat' – allows you to make popular styling: Canadian, British, pompadour, etc.
• An 'Andekat' on its side is a dashing version of the Polish nobility, as well as Scottish and Irish emigrants of the 30s and 40s of the XX century.
• 'Andekat' with a long pin from 18 centimeters – suitable for both self-wearing and for creating rockabilly and psychobilly styling, as well as for top knot.
• 'Andekat' for curly hair is an independent haircut style, dictated by the characteristics of the strands.

Who is the undercard for?

This is not to say that someone should not wear an undercut. The haircut is suitable for all ages and genders. It would be more correct to say that the 'underkat' will fit into someone's image less organically, while it will be more comfortable for someone to wear it.

The undercut on dark-haired men is more noticeable

Undercut will do:

• the owner of straight, smooth and hard strands;
• owners of dark hair – contrast is clearly visible on them;
• ready to spend time on hair care and styling every day;
• having the opportunity to regularly visit a barber to maintain a haircut;
• owners of a round or square face – the haircut visually stretches the profile.

To whom the undercard is less suitable

The main distinguishing feature by which one can recognize the undercut and its variations is the long parietal region and bangs with the shaved back of the head and temples. This contrast not only makes the haircut bright, but also imposes a number of restrictions.

Blond men need a sharper contrast between shaved temples and length.

Undercut is less suitable:

• owners of an elongated or pointed face – the hairstyle already stretches the profile, which will look even thinner;
• addicted to the classic style – the hairstyle shows itself perfectly with a suit, but this combination is not always appropriate;
• owners of curly and wavy hair – due to the properties of curls, styling will require more attention.
• for owners of light hair, the contrast between shaved temples and a long crown is less obvious.

Undercut for wavy hair is an independent and quite suitable haircut. However, she fails when styling is needed. If the curls are naughty or curl strongly, styling them is not a quick matter, and maintaining the shape of the hairstyle is also not easy. For example, in order to shape a British woman, the strands will have to be constantly straightened – this is an additional cost of time for care and finance for cosmetics.

How to lay an undercut

Only short 'undercut' does not require systematic styling. All other types require regular attention. The choice of styling method and means of fixation depends on the type of haircut and goals.

No styling products

Styling is done with a comb and hairdryer on clean and damp hair. With this method, you can style your hair in a British style or on its side. Styling is done quickly, but the effect will not last long either.
