If you do not knot a tie often and you have difficulty in choosing a tie knot, use The Windsor Knot or Half Windsor Knot. Try to keep the wide end hanging as low as possible in the very first step of the knotting instructions these knots, at the moment when you cross the wide end and the narrow end, barely holding the narrow end. This will give you more length when you finish tying your tie.

However, there are situations when the length of the tie is too short. Most likely, you are using a regular length tie, which for one reason or another does not suit you. In this case, I recommend choosing a 'Long' or 'extra-long' tie. Unfortunately, the choice of such ties is more modest, however, they allow you to tie knots of any complexity and fall below the belt buckle at the proper level.
