You often meet people and, wanting to get a business card, you often take out your wallet, however, what does your interlocutor see at that moment? If so, you should reconsider your attitude towards the wallet and take into account some of the tips that are poisonous in this article.

If you wear classic business suits, then you need a wallet that contains only the essentials. In addition to the nondescript look, a thick wallet is inconvenient to carry in the pocket of a jacket or trousers. Obviously, the jacket will bulge, creating asymmetry, and the pants may even rip if you sit down with a thick wallet in your back pocket.

Cash

Although the non-cash form of payment is more and more used for settlements these days, cash should always be available. Cash is more convenient, and most retail stores do not have credit card terminals, let alone taxis or regular kiosks. In addition, transactions often fail even in terminal-equipped shops or gas stations; then the bank refuses to service, then there is no connection with the bank at all.

Identification

Identity can be more than just a passport. For example, a driver's license or other ID cards with a photo (In Russia, Ukraine, the Republic of Belarus, they often raise the issue of introducing a universal card by which you can identify you, you can also pay with it from your account, you can also pay for travel on public transport with it).

Try to get by with one card, such as a driver's license. All other cards either do not take with you, or you place them in another organizer, not in your wallet.

Bank cards

Despite the convenience of cash, bank cards are still needed in a wallet. After all, too much cash will inflate your wallet, and money may be needed. Try to get by with one debit and one credit card (even better – a debit card with an overdraft, then a credit card is not required) VISA or MasterCard, so as not to clutter up with a dozen different cards that you use from time to time.

Fuel cards

It is very convenient to pay with fuel cards at gas stations, especially if you have a corporate car and prepaid gasoline. However, it is not necessary to carry the card in your wallet all the time if you refuel once a week, right? It is perfectly acceptable to leave your fuel card in the glove compartment given that even if stolen, you need to know the PIN to refuel.

Business cards

If you often have or need to meet new people, then you should always have business cards with you. Keeping them in your wallet is not a good idea, especially if you deal out 2-3 cards a day and have to carry a whole pack with you. The best solution to the problem would be to purchase a business card holder that you can put in your bag or briefcase. And put 1-2 business cards in your wallet just in case.

An exotic option is electronic business cards, but they are not very preferable. Firstly, the paper medium looks more serious than some kind of entry on the phone, and secondly, business cards can often be exchanged only between one phone brand, which limits the exchange of contacts.

Photos of loved ones

Photos are a common attribute of a man's wallet. It is difficult to refuse a good photograph of loved ones whom you want to remember more often. However, in my opinion, there are better solutions: a screensaver or a separate folder with a photo on your phone / laptop / monitor.

What NOT to keep in a men's wallet:

Plastic cards

Discount cards, club cards, social security cards and so on. All of these items should be kept separate from the wallet. Sometimes there are so many discount cards that it is better for them to buy a separate organizer in the form of a book.

Condoms

Storing condoms in a men's wallet is detrimental to the quality of condoms. It is best to keep it in the glove compartment of your car, in your briefcase, or carry it in your pocket on the day you need it.

Coins

Coins can make your wallet very heavy. If possible, unload the wallet and take out all the change (you can periodically put it in the piggy bank). If coins are still needed, try to carry them as little and as large as possible.

Receipts / Checks

Very often, after buying something, we put the check in our wallet just in case. Paper accumulates for months and clutters up the wallet. Try to put the checks in a separate place when you get home, or more often take apart the wallet of old checks.

Notes / copies of documents

If you carry copies of documents in the old fashioned way, then I recommend paying attention to the possibility of photographing documents and storing them in the cloud (for example, DropBox or Yandex.Disk). This is very convenient, especially if you travel frequently. There were cases when a foreign passport was lost, and all information could be restored in a matter of minutes from any computer or phone / tablet. The only thing is to take care of the security of data storage and do not set simple passwords like '12345'.

Presentability of a men's wallet

Not all wallets are created equal. Thin leather wallet is convenient if you go to a party or just walk from day to day with it to work / school. But a thin wallet is not suitable for tourist trips, since neither a ticket nor documents can fit there.

A sports wallet with the insignia of your favorite team is good for sporting events or a walk in the park, but not for a business lunch.

Classic men's wallet, very popular type, in which bills are folded in half. The wallet consists of several compartments for banknotes and plastic cards. Sometimes there is an additional compartment for coins. Suitable for wearing with both classic clothing and casual clothing.

3. Tri-fold wallet.

Medium 2-fold wallet. It is not intended for carrying a large number of bills, as it is strongly deformed if any. Compartments for plastic cards have a vertical layout.

In addition, wallets can be categorized by style and purpose:

1. Sports wallet

They are usually made of synthetic materials (polyester in particular) in bright colors with various fixtures to keep the wallet in place. The wallet is equipped with Velcro, belts, various carabiners so that it does not drop during a hike or travel. Sometimes sports wallets are made waterproof to protect against inclement weather.

2. Travel wallet

Typically, backpacker wallets are larger than average. The reason is the additional sections for passports, tickets, guidebooks or phrasebooks. Travel wallets are made with clips or straps around the waist or neck so they don't get stolen. Such wallets are not convenient for daily use due to their size, but very practical if you are traveling with your family and you have to carry documents and tickets for everyone.

3. Phone case / wallet

Quite a niche product and not often found. If it is enough for you to have 1-2 bank cards and a couple of high denomination notes with you, then such a product will certainly suit you.

Size matters

It's no secret that different countries have different money, and as a result – different sizes of bills and coins. Therefore, when choosing a wallet, purse or purse, make sure that the compartment for the notes corresponds to the size of the currency you are using.

There are situations when the documents are slightly different in size than ordinary plastic cards. For example, old-style driving license or car documents. In such cases, I recommend that you get all your documents before buying and place them in a new wallet. Thus, you will avoid the need to return to the store for another wallet.

Finally

Each of the listed types and styles of wallets can be made from both natural and synthetic materials. However, keep in mind that a black leather wallet is more suitable for a formal dress code, while a polyester wallet in a bright color is more suitable for a casual style.

Of course, it is advisable to have 2-3 different wallets for different occasions in life. But I would recommend that you get at least a black leather bifold wallet that will suit all styles.
