How to tie a Prince Albert knot

Life style

The Prince Albert knot is a variation of the Victoria knot. There is no evidence that such a tie was worn by a representative of the royal family, but the name stuck. The peculiarity of this knot is that you can pass the wide end of the tie through one of two turns around the narrow end of the tie. This is a slightly asymmetrical knot, it should be tightly tightened and this will give it a strict, businesslike look.

Instructions on how to tie a tie with the Prince Albert knot

  1. Throw the inside of the tie over yourself, with the seams inward. The wide end is on the right and the narrow end is on the left. The tip of the small end should be extended to a level just above your navel (this value may vary depending on your height, length and thickness of the tie). We will work with the wide end of the tie.
  2. Position the wide end with the bumpy end, forming a crosshair.
  3. Wrap the narrow side with the wide end of the tie from left to right.
  4. Form the front of the tie knot by horizontally shifting the wide end from right to left.
  5. Repeat the action, wrapping the wide end again, this time just below the first wrap.
  6. Pull the wide end towards the neck and pass it under the collar (tie) formed.
  7. Pass through the loop on the front of the knot that formed in steps 4 or 5.
  8. Pull the wide end downward, tightening slightly. Adjust the resulting knot so that it fits evenly into your collar.
