How to choose clothes for a man (part 4)

Life style

Formation of a universal men's wardrobe, in which there will be things for all occasions, well combined with each other, is not an instant process, but quite doable. In previous articles (part one, part two, part three) we have already considered 30 items of clothing that can compose your image in different situations, and today we will present the next 10.

We decided to act in order of priority and started with a wardrobe for work, but of course our life is not limited to the office. In addition, more and more small companies are abandoning strict dress codes, and the number of freelancers, creative workers, young businessmen and other guys who do not need to wear a shirt and jacket every day is growing. That is why in this part of a series of articles on how to choose clothes for a man, we will turn our attention to casual clothes.

How to choose casual clothes

It may seem that choosing clothes in a casual style is very easy. There are many rules about suits and ties: how long, what colors … But what could be easier than buying jeans and a sweatshirt? I took the first ones I came across … No. Not everything is so simple. There are far fewer generally accepted rules for choosing casual clothes, but this only makes it even easier to make mistakes and make the wrong impression.

In everyday wardrobe, the same principles apply as in formal: versatility, compatibility, appropriateness In everyday wardrobe, the same principles apply as in formal: versatility, compatibility, appropriateness

While dressing comfortably, you nevertheless, just as in the case of 'formal' attire, create a certain image that characterizes you in the eyes of others even before you start talking. So the choice of things that you wear in your free time should also be approached consciously. Not to mention, using logic and common sense in this matter will help you save a lot by minimizing the number of things and making the most of their versatility, quality and compatibility with each other.

31. Leather jacket

We've already covered how to choose a classic coat and trench coat, but when you're not wearing a jacket, they can be swapped out for a versatile piece of outerwear like a leather jacket.

There are many models of leather jackets, but it is best to choose one of two classics: a bomber jacket or a leather jacket, also called a biker jacket. Avoid seasonal trends, such as leather jackets with fabric hoods, or designs with appliqués or studs: a good leather jacket is not the cheapest purchase, so it will be a shame if, after a year, it suddenly seems out of place and strange. Classic black, brown or navy blue without unnecessary 'embellishments' is the best choice.

As for the material, the issue should be considered from different angles. If you do not want to wear natural leather for ethical reasons, then, of course, you can choose any of the synthetic analogs. If you are considering the issue only from the point of view of economy, then of course, it is better not to try to spend less, but still choose a model made from natural material. Yes, artificial leather these days looks no worse than real leather, but firstly, it will last much less, and secondly, natural leather retains heat much better and allows air to pass through, that is, on the street you will be warmer in it, and when you enter the premises (or the subway) – you will not be so hot.

32. Sweatshirt or sweatshirt

With the light hand of the founder Facebook Mark Zuckerberg, the hooded sweatshirt has gained a new heyday in popularity in recent years, and it is already difficult to imagine a young man's wardrobe without this garment. An informal alternative to cardigans and sweaters, hoodies and sweatshirts go well with jeans and athletic shoes and will help you out both as outerwear in cool summer and as an additional layer in winter.

Here, too, there are pitfalls: if you want to gain convenience, but not lose style and a certain elegance, then do not even look towards the bright shapeless models with prints in the form of cartoon characters. But a high-quality sweatshirt with a zipper with a discreet decor, for example, in the brand's logo, will come in handy in any informal situation.

33. Down vest

Another comfortable, but with the right approach, an elegant piece of men's wardrobe, invented for sailors and golfers. A few years ago, insulated vests took off from sports to the world of big fashion and seems to have taken root there.

This piece of clothing can be thrown on on a cool morning or early fall evening, and worn under jackets and coats in winter. The rules are the same: neat uniforms, restrained colors and decor – and the vest will serve you for at least several years. You can read more about them in this article.

34. Hat

Since we are talking about the cool weather, we will also touch on the hats. If you live in a cold climate (and since you are reading this article in Russian, then this is 90% true), then you cannot do without a hat. You can hate to pull out shabby sports models from the bowels of the closet and pull them on when it gets especially cold, but it's much better to go shopping and pick up a neat hat that suits you.

The most versatile option is a sleek, dark cap with a turn-up. Pay attention to the composition, at least half of it should be wool! We already wrote more about men's headdresses here.

35. Gloves

The story is similar with gloves: who needs weathered, red hands if you can just buy a stylish accessory? Leather gloves with a wool lining or – following the trends of our time – wool gloves with inserts on the fingers for touch screens will come in handy in the cold.

36. Longsleeve

We have already written about men's T-shirts with short sleeves, and you can hardly do without them in the summer. But long-sleeved T-shirts, which in cold weather can be worn under jackets, cardigans and sweatshirts, but which at the same time, if necessary, can also act as independent clothing (this is especially true from the moment the heating is turned on in the fall) will become a useful purchase for any man.

37. Summer men's shoes

We have already written about classic and sports shoes, as well as models for the cold period, but we must not forget about the heat. You will definitely need at least one pair of summer city shoes. These can be moccasins or topsiders, or, if you are more inclined to a sporty style, lightweight sneakers or sneakers.

Summer shoes allow for more color variety than winter shoes, but you can't go wrong if you opt for universal shades that go with all your trousers. All shades of brown work well for moccasins or topsiders; in the case of sneakers and sneakers, you can consider white or black.

38. Sandals

Sandals are the kind of footwear that many men think they can do without … until the vacation begins! Of course, if you hate the sun and any bodies of water, and in the summer you go somewhere to Greenland, you can skip this point, but if you regularly go to the sea or to the country house, then sandals are for you.

Since this shoe in our strip is not worn very often, a good leather model will last you many years. Add it to your wardrobe so you don't panic every time your thermometer rises above 30 degrees.

39. Bag

The more different gadgets we have, the more difficult it is to shove them all into our pockets. And why? Fortunately, in stores today you can find a lot of men's bags for every taste and budget.
A neat leather or textile shoulder bag will solve your problems with the placement of all the necessary things.

40. Briefcase or urban backpack

In the event that the set of things that you need to take with you is not limited to trifles, such as documents, keys and a smartphone, you need a briefcase or backpack. Make a choice based on which style you dress more often: if you at least occasionally go to work in a suit, choose a briefcase. No 'grandpa' soft models or plastic diplomats from the 90s! The modern briefcase is a sleek, rigid bag that can hold a laptop and A4 sheets. Don't forget the shoulder strap!

An alternative to a briefcase can be a backpack, but not the one with which they go hiking. An urban backpack is a neat model of a neutral color, preferably without large prints and inscriptions, preferably made of leather. In this case, you can safely combine it with any things from your wardrobe without fear of looking strange.
