How to choose boots

What are football boots

Depending on the type of game, all football boots are divided into two general categories:

  1. A classic studded boot designed for playing big football on the pitch or on a dedicated turf. The most comfortable fixation on the leg, firm grip with the ground by means of studs, high maneuverability and low weight – these are the main characteristics of the best models;

  2. Shoes designed for futsal or mini-football. They are used on hard surfaces, and therefore the need for studs disappears, they are successfully replaced by a durable rubber protector that provides maximum grip;

Depending on the specific performance characteristics, studded cleats are divided into the following types:

  1. TURF. Natural turf boot. Their design provides for the presence of 24 rigid rubber spikes that provide an even load on the foot and maximize traction;

  2. Multi Stud Rubber. The cleats are equipped with soft rounded studs, which ensure maximum comfort of use. Suitable for playing on both natural and artificial turf;

  3. Hard Ground and Very Hard Ground are shoes designed for playing in difficult conditions. These cleats are equipped with flat studs that allow excellent acceleration, as well as maintain maximum grip on hard surfaces – asphalt, gravel, as well as compressed snow;

  4. Soft Ground (SG) is a boot designed for use on soft turf. Most popular with goalkeepers and midfielders;

As a distinct type of athletic shoe, indoor boots also fall into two broad categories:

  1. Indoor – classic models designed for active play in the hall. The appearance is similar to the classic 'street' boots, only the tread differs – instead of studs, a flat polyurethane sole is used here;

  2. FS (Futsal) – light, soft and practical shoes used for futsal or mini-football. Their main advantage is excellent adhesion to the surface, as well as minimal weight;

What material are football boots made of?

Due to the narrow specialization, without exception, all football boots are made either from natural or from artificial leather.

  1. Natural leather shoes are distinguished by high plasticity, wear resistance and perfectly retain their properties under extreme loads. These shoes wick away moisture very well, preventing your feet from sweating. However, not all types of leather are suitable for making high-quality boots – in order to maximize the effect and achieve the necessary characteristics, kangaroo leather or young calf leather is considered the best option;

  2. Artificial leather is inferior to natural leather in all its parameters, and yet such boots are quite popular. Mainly, the merit lies in the obviously lower price – artificial leather boots are chosen by those players who play football several times a year and simply do not need expensive models;

How to try on football boots?

When it comes to buying faux leather boots, you need to try on models that are 1/2 size larger than everyday shoes. This fact is explained quite simply – due to dynamic loads, the muscles are saturated with oxygen and filled with blood, as a result of which the foot significantly increases in size. By choosing obviously larger shoes, the football player neutralizes such an increase and eliminates discomfort during the game;

Genuine leather, due to its characteristics and high plasticity, does not require such a compensation gap. The boot, chosen by size, is not capable of causing discomfort during the game, because the leather stretches well. Of course, this fact applies exclusively to high-quality models made of kangaroo leather or young calf.
