Laundry and cleaning

High-quality bed linen is distinguished not only by a pleasant texture and excellent appearance – it provides a comfortable, healthy sleep. In order for the product to last as long as possible, it is necessary to provide it with proper care – washing is no exception. How to wash bed linen correctly? Our experts will tell you about it.

Linens

Features of washing different fabrics

Correctly selected linen will help you to completely relax during sleep and how you should rest, and a well-chosen washing regime will help to extend the operational life of the product

Cotton

If we are talking about a new set, it is best to wash it by hand for the first time, and in cold water. In the future, you can safely use both manual and machine washing options, raising the temperature to 90 ° C and even pre-bleaching when it comes to white bedding sets. For colored linen, the water temperature should not exceed 40 ° C and boiling is not required at all.

Drying. Drying in a special device is permissible only for those products that have a corresponding sign on the label. In other cases, bed linen is dried naturally, away from direct sunlight, since they are detrimental to the natural material.

Ironing. The cotton fabric can be ironed, and it is advisable to do this while the material is still damp. In case of embroidery or embossed design, purl ironing is recommended.

Linen

It is recommended to wash dyed linen material at a temperature of 60 ° C, finished (impregnated with special compounds) – at a temperature not exceeding 40 ° C in a delicate mode. For washing white linen bedding, you can use universal detergents, for colored or patterned ones – only detergents designed for delicate fabrics.

Drying. For linen materials, only the natural drying option is suitable – when using a dryer, the material will simply 'shrink'.

Ironing. It is best to iron your linen while it is still wet, and let the iron heat up strongly. You can also use an iron for dry fabrics, only in this case it is necessary to periodically spray it with water from a spray bottle.

Silk

Real silk is incredibly capricious, so it is recommended to use dry cleaning services to clean silk bed linen. If, nevertheless, you want to wash this material at home, strictly follow a few rules. First, be sure to check that the fabric does not fade before starting the wash. Wash only by hand in cold water (no higher than 30 ° C) for a short period of time. Secondly, do not rub the fabric too much (neither with your hands nor with a brush). Thirdly, you should not squeeze the product either. Remember to rinse your bedding set thoroughly: use warm water first, then cold water.

ADVICE. To freshen up the color of the silk material, you can add a little vinegar at the end of the wash (at the rate of 1 teaspoon for 3 liters of water).

Drying. Allowed only in natural conditions – no tumble dryers or open sun rays.

Ironing. The silk product is ironed from the wrong side (while it is still wet) with a moderately heated iron. The steam function is not allowed. Never spray the fabric with water during ironing, as this can cause water stains.

Synthetics

Synthetic fabrics can be washed both by hand and in a washing machine using a special mode at a temperature not exceeding 60 ° C (the optimum temperature is about 40 ° C – so pellets will not appear on the fabric). The use of bleaching agents is not allowed.

Drying. Synthetic bedding can be dried both in a special machine and in a natural way, and it is not afraid of the open rays of the sun. Do not only use heating batteries for drying.

Ironing. You can iron synthetics with a hot iron with the steam function on. The material can be either dry or wet by that time. The effect will be equally good.

Useful Tips

Well, and finally, some valuable tips that will help you quickly and without hassle wash bedding made of various fabrics:

  1. Be sure to follow and adhere to the fabric manufacturer's recommendations on the label.

  2. New bed linen must be washed before use: and the pillowcases and duvet cover must be turned inside out.

  3. Do not use bleach when washing or soaking – except for white cotton.

  4. Always sort the fabrics by type and color before washing – do not mix fabrics that require a different approach in the cleaning process.

  5. When machine wash, do not ignore the weight limits indicated by the appliance manufacturer. Try to fill the drum no more than 50% – this will ensure gentle cleaning and accurate spin.
