How to wash a knitted hat: subtleties, instructions, useful tips

Laundry and cleaning

Washing knitted products is a rather painstaking process, especially when it comes to things made using natural thread. So that such an element of outerwear as a hat does not fade, does not stretch and generally remains usable after washing, certain rules must be followed. What kind? Our experts will tell you about it.

Knitted hat

Knitted hat washing technology

Any knitted items of clothing must be washed extremely delicately, respectively, machine options are not suitable, since after such a 'procedure' a thing can not only lose its shape, but also become completely unsuitable for wearing. Below is a detailed instruction that will help you to wash your knitted hat carefully and efficiently.

Choosing the right product

For washing knitted items, use only gentle detergents that are suitable for delicate care. It can be a washing powder for woolen fabrics or a washing gel product: such products act gently on delicate materials, and their detergent particles do not get stuck in the fibers. If the thing is not very dirty, you can do with baby or bath soap, but only without dyes, since they can stick into the material.

ADVICE. If a knitted hat needs to be washed urgently, and you don't have the necessary detergents at hand, use a simple and effective method – hair shampoo. It will not only help to remove all dirt, but also make the threads of the material from which the thing is made softer. Be sure to check that the shampoo contains no aggressive additives (such as silicones) or essential oils.

Washing process

Let us consider in detail the process of properly washing knitted hats (this technology is also suitable for scarves):

  1. Fill the deep container in which the product will be cleaned with warm water (if the hat is woolen, the water temperature should not exceed 35 ° C, otherwise the thing will simply 'sit down'). Pour / pour the selected detergent into the water and dissolve it thoroughly.

  2. Gently dip the knitted hat into the prepared water. It is not necessary to leave it for soaking – with prolonged contact with the detergent product, the structure of the fibers of the material may irreversibly change.

  3. Rub the item gently with your hands. Do not use too much force to prevent damage to the threads. If you find an overly stubborn stain on your hat, try cleaning it with a soft sponge or a natural cloth.

  4. Slightly squeeze the garment and rinse it in clean water several times (the temperature should be identical to that used for washing – sudden temperature changes will lead to deformation of the knitted garment).

  5. Take the washed item out of the water and gently squeeze it without stretching or twisting – just squeeze slightly on several sides.

ADVICE. If you want to wash a hat with a pom-pom made from natural fur, you will have to carefully rip it off – the fur items of clothing cannot be washed.

Correct drying

Knitted hats should not only be washed delicately, but also dried properly. Standard options in this case are categorically contraindicated. Do not hang the product on a rope, dry in the sun or near heating appliances.

We recommend drying the product only horizontally, preferably laying it on a flat surface (for example, a table) and first covering it with a cotton towel or a dense but absorbent cloth. To speed up the drying process, you can provide fresh air to the room (just open the window in the room in ventilation mode).

Useful Tips

Finally, a couple of valuable tips regarding the peculiarities of washing knitted hats:

  1. If the item is made of synthetic material, you can try washing it with household appliances. For these purposes, use a special bag. Choose the most delicate mode. In this case, the spin function must be disabled.

  2. If the item of clothing is too dirty, it is allowed to pre-soak it in cold water using a small amount of vinegar.

  3. If the knitted hat is made with the addition of woolen threads, under no circumstances use enzyme powders. One such care procedure is enough to ruin the thing.

  4. In order not to deform the cap during the wringing process, it is better to get it out of the water by holding it at both edges (so as not to stretch it). Slightly squeezing the item on several sides, gently roll it into a roll, first laying it on a towel. So excess moisture will immediately go away, and the product will not stretch.
