With the onset of the cold autumn-winter season, the problem of choosing heaters for a summer house or a country house becomes especially acute. Most often, such housing is not connected to centralized utilities such as a gas pipeline or a hot water supply system, so it is simply impossible to be in it outside the window at freezing temperatures.

To help make suburban housing comfortable in winter, we have compiled a rating of the 15 best heaters for summer cottages.

How to choose a heater

When choosing a heater, it is enough to pay attention to two parameters – device type and power.

There are five types of heaters that can be used in the country or in a country house:

  1. Oil radiators are structurally similar to conventional ones, only circulating oil is used as a heat carrier, as the name implies. They are distinguished by good efficiency, mobility, quiet operation and optimal energy consumption. Electricity is consumed to heat the oil only after switching on, and then the device simply maintains the temperature.
  2. Electric convectors are also similar to conventional radiators, only they use current for heating. Air flows naturally through them. The main advantage of such convectors is the ability to accurately adjust the temperature.
  3. Infrared emitters are similar in principle to the sun – they heat not the air, but directly objects in the room. This keeps floors and walls cool. True, the air turns out to be slightly colder than objects in the room, as a result of which the use of such heaters will require habit.
  4. Thermal fans are powerful heaters that provide artificial convection of hot air. As a result, they quickly raise the room temperature. However, such heaters put a heavy load on the power supply network and make quite a loud noise during operation.
  5. Gas convectors are similar to electric ones, but they use a flame from the combustion of propane for heating. They work quickly and efficiently, and most importantly, they can be used in houses that are not connected to the mains. But such convectors are undesirable to use indoors.

Thus, the choice of a heater directly depends on the user's needs. If you need to heat a very cold room or quickly warm it up, then a heat fan or gas convector will do. In small rooms, it will be enough to place oil radiators. But for houses with permanent residence, where it is required to maintain a comfortable temperature, electric convectors and infrared emitters are intended.

The efficiency of space heating depends on the power of the heater. For different types of devices, this parameter differs, however, on average, the following dependence is established – every 1000 W (1 kW) can heat up to 10-15 square meters of a room.

That is, for a room with an area of 12 m2, a 1 kW heater is enough, and for a room of 34 m2, it is already advisable to take a 3 kW device.

Which heater is better – oil, infrared or convector type?

It is difficult to compare these heaters due to their different operating principle. However, some general performance characteristics can be highlighted:

Timberk TOR 51.2211 BTX

Rating: 4.9

Timberk TOR 51.2211 BTX

Why it is: Powerful oil cooler with integrated air humidifier.

This radiator is devoid of the main problem of such devices – it does not dry the air. Thanks to the built-in humidifier, the atmosphere in the room remains pleasant and comfortable. In addition, this radiator can work in the so-called 'fireplace mode' – that is, it first heats up the air in the room, and then just maintains the temperature without heating it.

The radiator has a power of 2200 W, so the nominal area heated by it is 26 square meters. The heater supports mechanical temperature control. The control knobs are made of a special material that does not get hot during use.

The design of the radiator includes 11 sections and casters for easy transportation. In addition, it features a cord compartment and heat-resistant handle, which also make it easier to roll the device around the house.

Advantages

  • Built-in air humidifier;
  • High power;
  • 'Fireplace mode'.

disadvantages

  • Comparatively slow heating of the room;
  • Small capacity of the humidifier;
  • Frequent refilling of the humidifier is required.

In addition, the radiator is equipped with a variety of protective systems. For example, it automatically shuts off in case of rollover or overheating. This greatly improves the safety of use.

The design of the radiator includes 7 fins, which are made in a curved shape for improved air convection. For control, mechanical handles made of non-heating material are used. In addition, the heatsink is equipped with a power-on LED. There are casters, a handle and a cord compartment for easy transport and storage.

Advantages

  • Attractive design;
  • Heats up quickly;
  • Reliable thermostat.

disadvantages
