Review of the best according to the editorial board. On the selection criteria. This material is subjective and does not constitute advertising and does not serve as a purchase guide. Before buying, you need to consult with a specialist.

Despite the seeming simplicity of the design of a household thermos, in which it would seem that it is quite difficult to spoil anything, the difference between the products of different manufacturers can sometimes be colossal. This is reflected in the temperature retention time, resistance to mechanical stress, ease of use and much more. Experts have studied the opinions of real buyers, and based on their findings, we have prepared for you a rating of modern thermoses in the context of the most important characteristics.

Which company thermos is better

A lot of companies produce thermoses, but as always, there are few best samples in terms of price, quality and performance. Let's figure out for a start what the manufacturers of thermoses themselves are, which were included in the review.

  1. Arctic is a young Russian company founded in 2008. She began her activity with the production of thermoses and other isothermal products. The products themselves are made in China.

  2. STANLEY is one of the most famous and recognizable brands of tools and insulated cookware. It appeared in the United States back in the 19th century, and since then has won worldwide recognition. Currently, STANLEY thermoses are mainly manufactured in China.

  3. Zojirushi is a Japanese company with a century of history. From the very beginning, she specialized in the manufacture of tourist dishes and, in particular, thermoses. Zojirushi products are recommended for use by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

  4. Contigo is a trademark founded in the USA in 2003. Quite quickly, it won a significant market share due to its innovative approach and product quality. It appeared on the European market in 2009. Contigo thermo mugs are mainly produced in China.

The best thermoses for hot drinks (tea, coffee)

Let's start our review with thermoses, the design and capabilities of which are optimal for maintaining the temperature (both high and low) of drinks. Their main common property is a relatively narrow neck. In all presented models, the lid design implies the ability to use it as a cup. Flasks and bodies are made of stainless steel.

Arctic 106-1200 (1.2 l)

Arctic 106-1200 (1.2 l)

The classic vacuum thermos Arctic 106-1200 is made in a characteristic American style in black. Flask and body are made of stainless steel. The volume of the flask is 1.2 liters.

The neck in this model is the narrowest in comparison with other thermoses in the group – 3.7 cm. The width of the case is 9.5 cm. The height is 31 cm. The thermos without packaging weighs 618 g.

According to the manufacturer, the device is able to keep warm or cold for 32 hours. Here, of course, the inevitable natural heat loss should be taken into account – they can be about 5 degrees per hour or more, depending on the occupancy and a number of other conditions.

Users highly appreciate the coating of the Arctic 106-1200 case – this is the so-called 'hammer' enamel, which is resistant to abrasions, small scratches and fingerprints.

The thermos is equipped with a blind plug with a convenient pouring valve and two cups, one of which serves as a lid. A small drawback of the lid mug is that when screwed it does not quite 'smoothly' fall into the thread, which makes many consumers nervous. The rest of the reviews about this model are mostly positive.

Advantages

  • easy to use;

  • the lid transforms into two circles;

  • affordable price;

disadvantages

  • lids-mugs are screwed on inconveniently.

STANLEY Classic Vacuum Insulated Bottle (1 L)

STANLEY Classic Vacuum Insulated Bottle

The most compact thermos in this group is a product of the legendary American company STANLEY. Manufactured in China. Classic vacuum form factor with steel bulb and body.

This model is 200 ml less capacious than the previous Arctic 106-1200, but the external dimensions are slightly larger: height – 36 cm, case diameter – 10 cm, neck width – 5.5 cm.The thermos weight is also noticeably more – 830 g. the coating uses abrasion-resistant enamel.

Unlike its domestic counterpart, it has a durable plastic handle on movable metal mounts. The lid-thermostatic glass has a volume of 236 ml.

According to the declared characteristics, this thermos is able to keep the temperature up to 24 hours. This is less than the Arctic 106-1200, but if you look at the reviews of real buyers, this characteristic is more honest.

Advantages

  • the presence of a handle;

  • keeps temperature as stated.

disadvantages

  • expressed no.

Zojirushi SF-CC15 (1.5L)

Zojirushi SF-CC15 (1.5L)

The Zojirushi SF-CC15 thermos of a well-known profile Japanese brand is produced in Thailand. Its dimensions are 130 × 115 × 265 mm, the useful volume of the flask is 1.5 liters.

The body and the bulb are made of stainless steel, as in the two previous models, but there is an important difference. The engineers of Zojirushi Corporation managed to reduce the vacuum gap in the flask from the standard 2 mm to 1 mm, and the walls were made of extra strong steel of reduced thickness. Thus, the Zojirushi SF-CC15 maintains the temperature as long as any other classic form factor thermoses, but at the same time it is noticeably lighter and more compact than almost any of them.

The neck in this model is the widest in this group of products – as much as 7 cm. This point is emphasized by the manufacturer himself, and users also positively respond to him.

Another highlight of the Zojirushi SF-CC15 is that it is extremely easy to clean. The surface of the flask inside has a Teflon coating, due to which it is easy to clean (and at the same time, drinks are guaranteed not to acquire a metallic taste). The body is also covered with a special compound that makes it easy to clean. Finally, the lid valve is collapsible, and it can also be conveniently and quickly washed under running water.

Advantages

  • lightweight and compact;

  • keeps the temperature for a long time;

  • Teflon coating inside;

  • comfortable handle and detachable strap;

disadvantages

  • high price.

Arctic 110-2200 (2.2 l)

Arctic 110-2200 (2.2 l)

Thermos Arktika 110-2200 is the most capacious in this group – 2.2 liters with a height of 36.5 cm. Users praise its 'extreme' design. The product really looks very impressive, but the fixed non-removable handle is a little upsetting. Neck diameter – 5 cm.

The body and the bulb are made of stainless lightweight alloy, the rest of the parts are made of high strength plastic. The top screwed part consists of two mug lids, and one of them even has a handle, like a real cup. The lower removable part serves as a small plate. Fully assembled, the Arctic 110-2200 weighs 1410 g, which is significantly more than the Zojirushi SF-CC15, and some users don't like it.

The thermos is capable of nominally holding the temperature (both heat and cold) for up to 40 hours with heat loss at the level of 4-5 degrees per hour until the ambient temperature is reached, provided it is completely filled.

Advantages

  • spacious;

  • spectacular design;

  • equipment (mugs and plate);

  • prolonged retention of heat or cold;

disadvantages

  • relatively heavy;

  • fixed 'bulging' handle.

The best thermoses for food

Now let's consider three models of thermoses, structurally adapted to maintain the temperature of conditionally solid food products. As in the previous group, the bodies and flasks of these three models are metal.

Arctic 203-1000 (1 l)

Arctic 203-1000 (1 l)

Another model of the famous domestic trade mark, but this time created for food products. The body and the flask are made of stainless steel. The dimensions of the thermos are 23×12.3 cm, the diameter of the neck is 7.5 cm. The product weighs 684 g. The volume of the tank is 1 liter. Nominally, Arctic 203-1000 is capable of keeping the temperature of the contents up to 20 hours.

Outside, the body has a rubber coating. It performs a double task at once: to protect hands from extreme cold when touched in the cold, and to create an aesthetically pleasing, matte non-marking surface.

The thermos is equipped with a convenient retractable handle and a removable strap for carrying the product over the shoulder. The design provides for a wide blind plug with a narrow dispenser. The stopper can be completely removed to load or remove food. Drinks without a solid component or pulp can be poured through special channels in the cork, without unscrewing it to the end.

Advantages

  • nice design;

  • affordable price;

  • double lid;

  • comfortable handle and belt;

  • universal;

disadvantages

  • expressed no.

STANLEY Adventure Vacuum Food Jar (0.7 L)

STANLEY Adventure Vacuum Food Jar (0.7 L)

The compact food vacuum flask STANLEY Adventure Vacuum Food Jar is the smallest and least capacious model in this group. The useful volume of the flask is 0.71 l, the dimensions are 9.7×10.1×20.0 cm. It weighs 0.52 kg.

The vacuum interlayer between the metal body and the metal flask is effective enough to retain heat for 15 hours with a gradual drop in temperature from 99 to 50 degrees. Some users note this as a drawback, but here it is worth remembering that the larger the volume, the easier it is for the thermos to maintain the temperature, and this model has the most modest volume among the other products under consideration.

This model is often confused with the Stanley Legendary Adventure Food Jar, but it has a significant difference – the absence of a handle and some other structural details.

Advantages

  • compact;

  • brand;

  • easy to use;

disadvantages

  • relatively short temperature retention period.

Zojirushi SL-XD20-BA

Zojirushi SL-XD20-BA

Another example of Japanese quality, although produced in Thailand, is the Zojirushi SL-XD20-BA food vacuum thermos. This model is the most capacious among the monitored analogs – 2 liters. Case width – 13.5 cm, height – 23.5 cm.The product weighs 1.2 kg.

The body and bulb are made from exactly the same special alloy as in the sister Zojirushi SF-CC15, and inside the tank, the walls are similarly coated with Teflon.

The rather limited time of heat retention, only 6 hours, causes some bewilderment. Part of the reason for this is the significantly larger volume, but still a noticeable part of users are unhappy with this circumstance.

The set includes three food containers. Their volumes are 300, 400 and 790 milliliters. Also in the characteristics, the presence of cutlery is declared, but in fact these are chopsticks, which is not suitable for all consumers.

Advantages

  • Teflon coating inside;

  • equipment.

disadvantages

  • does not keep warm for long;

  • high price;

  • easily soiled and scratched surface of the case;

The best thermoses jugs

Observing thermal dishes, you should pay attention to its special subspecies – thermal jugs. They are not as popular as thermoses, but for some purposes they are very convenient and appropriate. As for the manufacturers, there are no surprises here – our experts liked two models: the domestic Arctic 601-2000 (2 liters) and the Japanese Zojirushi AHGB-13 (1.3 liters).

Arctic 601-2000 (2 L)

Arctic 601-2000 (2 L)

The Arctic 601-2000 vacuum thermal jug has a volume of 2 liters. Flask and body are made of stainless steel. The dimensions of the product are 29.5×14.5 cm.The diameter of the neck is 4.1 cm.The jug weighs 916 g.

Customers estimate the design of the jug as stylish and modern. There are small complaints about the body's soiled and difficult to clean – it has no coating, only pure steel.

Nominally, according to the manufacturer, this model should keep both heat and cold for 30 hours. Some users express dissatisfaction with the fact that the Arctic 601-2000 (2 liters) does not hold the temperature for the stated time. But with a more detailed study of the issue, it turned out that many had simply overestimated expectations, they say, after 20-30 hours, boiling water should remain boiling water. In fact, in any thermowell, heat loss of several degrees per hour is inevitable.

Advantages

  • stylish design;

  • convenient to use.

disadvantages

  • does not keep the temperature for the stated time (debatable).

Zojirushi AHGB-13 (1.3 L)

Zojirushi AHGB-13 (1.3 L)

The Zojirushi AHGB-13 thermos jug is as much as 700 ml less spacious than the previous model. The width of its case is 13.5 cm, and the height is 30 cm. The product weighs 850 g. Users are unanimous in their high assessment of the visual design and quality of materials. Unlike many other Zojirushi products, this particular model of a thermal jug is made in Japan itself.

The Zojirushi AHGB-13 has an important structural difference from all other types of thermal dishes that are present in the review. This is a glass bulb. From a functional point of view (heat retention time), it does not matter in principle whether the flask is made of stainless steel or glass. But there are two points: glass is certainly more hygienic and completely chemically neutral, but at the same time there is always a danger of destruction of the flask due to mechanical impact on the jug (impact, fall). That is why the material of the flask fell into both advantages and disadvantages at the same time – this is how the opinions of users were divided.

The heat retention time of Zojirushi AHGB-13 is 24 hours.

Advantages

  • glass flask;

  • beautiful appearance.

disadvantages

  • high price;

  • glass flask.

The best thermo mugs

And the last category in our review is thermo mugs. Their function is the same as that of other types of thermal dishes, but there are important differences in terms of ergonomics and use in general. In thermo mugs, the possibility of convenient use with one hand (opening and closing the lid, blocking the valve, etc.), stability, compactness are appreciated. All four monitored models are 'non-spills', that is, they are equipped with mechanisms to protect against accidental spills.

Contigo West Loop (0.47 L)

Contigo West Loop (0.47 L)

Vacuum thermo mugs of the American trade mark Contigo West Loop are produced in China. It has a volume of 0.47 l, the flask is made of stainless steel, the body is stainless steel with plastic elements. Case width – 7 cm, height – 20 cm, weight – 350 g.

The most notable thing about this model is its design, which attracts mostly rave reviews from users. But the functionality is quite decent: the mug keeps heat up to 5 hours and cold – up to 12 hours. These parameters, according to customer reviews, are true.

A small number of complaints relate to the complexity and bulkiness of the lid design, which makes it difficult to clean. Also, some people don't like a too narrow drinking hole.

Advantages

  • honestly keeps the temperature for the stated time;

  • spectacular design;

  • blocking accidental pressing of the drinking button;

disadvantages

  • narrow drinking hole;

  • it is difficult to wash the cover due to the large number of small parts.

STANLEY Classic One Hand Vacuum Mug (0.47 L)

STANLEY Classic One Hand Vacuum Mug (0.47 L)

This model of the American brand of vacuum thermo mug is made in China. Outwardly, it practically does not differ from an ordinary thermos, except for the dimensions – the dimensions are 8.3×23.9 cm. The product weighs 404 g. Volume – 0.47 liters.

The body and the flask are made of stainless steel. The material of the cover and the valve mechanism is heat-resistant plastic. The outside of the case is covered with durable, abrasion-resistant, non-marking enamel.

According to the manufacturer, the model is able to keep both warm and cold contents for up to 7 hours, and users do not notice any serious discrepancies between the nominal values and the real ones. There are complaints that the valve button sometimes spontaneously pops out of the socket. Even less common are complaints about leakage in the button socket.

Advantages

  • simplicity and ease of use;

  • abrasion-resistant coating of the body.

disadvantages

  • complaints about the falling out button and leakage.

Zojirushi SM-KB48 (0.48 L)

Zojirushi SM-KB48 (0.48 L)

Thermo mugs of the Japanese brand Zojirushi SM-KB48 are produced in Thailand. In terms of external parameters, this model is even less distinguishable from a conventional thermos than the previous product from STANLEY, primarily due to the presence of a classic lid. The difference is that the lid is opened with one touch with one hand using a button.

The volume of the thermo mug is 0.48 l, the width of the body is 6.5 cm, the height is 23 cm. The product weighs 300 g. The body and the flask are made of stainless steel. Nominally retains both heat and cold for up to 24 hours.

The main advantage of this model is its high ergonomics. The lid mechanism is designed to prevent splashing when opening. The cover valve is collapsible and easy to clean. The lid has an additional air duct that facilitates pouring out the beverage, helping to create a splash-free flow of liquid.

In general, buyers have almost no complaints about this model, except for the price, but active users admit that the cost is justified.

Advantages

  • high build quality and materials;

  • confident temperature retention;

  • ease of use and maintenance;

  • available spare parts;

disadvantages

  • high price.

Arctic 410-500 (0.5 l)

Arctic 410-500 (0.5 l)

Domestic vacuum thermo mugs Arctic 410-500 are made in China. The most outstanding feature of this product is its discreet yet sophisticated design. Also, many people like the compactness. As for the functionality, there are some rather unpleasant flaws.

The height of the mug is 19 cm with a volume of 0.5 liters. Body and flask material – stainless steel. The mug is closed by a compact heat-resistant plastic lid with a drinking hole. It is with this cover that a number of users have problems – the connection with the body loses its density rather quickly, the cover starts to twist and leak.

The nominal retention time of heat and cold in this model is about 8 hours. Many users notice a significant decrease in this characteristic after some time of use.

Advantages

  • compactness;

  • exquisite design.

disadvantages

  • complaints about the speedy leakage and turning of the lid;

  • fragility of the declared parameters.

Which thermos to buy

  1. Of the thermoses 'sharpened' for hot or cold drinks, the undisputed favorite is the Zojirushi SF-CC15 (1.5 l). It is not the most roomy, but in terms of quality and functionality, it is almost flawless, albeit the most expensive. If you need the maximum volume, you can choose the Arctic 110-2200 (2.2 liters), but you have to put up with a 'hard' handle, which, however, is not a critical drawback. In STANLEY Classic Vacuum Insulated Bottle it is difficult to find noticeable flaws, except perhaps for a volume of 1 liter. Arctic 106-1200 (1.2 l) is a good option if you need a good thermos at the lowest price.

  2. In the group of thermoses for food products, the undisputed leader is 'our' Arctic 203-1000, but the limited volume of 1 liter is a little frustrating. This is the only universal thermos in the group. Zojirushi SL-XD20-BA is good in everything and even better in places, and twice as spacious. But in terms of a combination of factors, it is slightly inferior to the Arctic, and in terms of price, it is significantly. The STANLEY thermos is very good, but the least capacious compared to the other two models.

  3. Thermo jugs Arctic 601-2000 (2 l) and Zojirushi AHGB-13 (1.3 l) differ in almost everything, including the theme of design and even the material of the flask. Neither one has any critical flaws, so you can navigate when buying by preferences in terms of volume or price (Zojirushi is twice as expensive).

  4. Of the thermo mugs, the most expensive 'traditionally' is the model from Zojirushi, but it is also the highest quality. The other three presented models from Arctic, STANLEY and Contigo are almost equal in volume and price. Only Contigo stands out for its sophisticated design and the least amount of customer complaints.
