LNB Short on TV Screen | What is and solutions

Electronics

LNB Short (can also be indicated as Warning LNB Short) is a rather rare error, but dangerous. It occurs on TVs connected to a conventional TV antenna, and indicates a short circuit in the antenna cable.

An LNB Short problem on a TV screen may indicate the following:

  1. The TV antenna cable is damaged directly, the signal line is shorted to ground;

  2. The receiver is damaged, shorted its power to the ground layer;

  3. Connector dirty.

And if the third problem can be corrected independently, at home, then the rest are already a little more difficult.

How to get rid of LNB Short error on TV screen

LNB Short

As mentioned above, this message informs about problems with the antenna wire. Accordingly, it is necessary to check the entire path – from the outside TV antenna to the connector that connects directly to the display device (TV).

First you need to clean the connector. It's pretty simple:

  1. Turn off the power of the TV, disconnect the antenna cable from it;

  2. With a brush dipped in alcohol (it is in alcohol, preferably medical, alcoholic drinks like brandy or wine will not work. Vodka is possible, but in this case it is advisable to blow out the connector after the procedure) wipe the antenna connector from the outside and from the inside;

  3. In the same way, wipe the actual connector directly on the wire;

  4. Connect the antenna and try to watch a couple of programs.

If the error persists, then the closure is higher. Perhaps the connection of the current-carrying conductors to the connector or to the removed 'horns' is damaged.

Separately, it is worth checking the antenna gain – unless, of course, you have a device that supports additional power supply. Without turning off your TV, cut off the power supply to the amplifier. If the message disappears – here it is, the problem has been detected. Need a configuration without amplification or just repair the amplifier.

When is it recommended to contact the service center?

In general, such an error speaks of a rather exotic damage, which does not arise from a bunch of bugs. Therefore, it is recommended to call a television equipment repair specialist immediately after its appearance.

The most common way to correct this damage is to completely replace the LNB cable that leads to the outer 'horns'. A short circuit can occur in any of its sections. In addition, moisture can get inside the wire, which also leads to a variety of short circuits, including interturn braided ones, which act as a 'ground' and a shield.

Short circuit in amplifying equipment also occurs, although less often. It speaks primarily of physical damage to the microcircuits inside the receiving device. In this case, the additional power supply begins to short to the grounded shield – the outer layer of metal conductors in the LNB cable.
