The history of the birth of a brand with a taste of luxury
The brand borrowed its name from its creator Hugo Ferdinand Boss. After inheriting a small clothing store from his parents, the man expanded the family business to the size of a garment factory. The latter was opened in 1923 in Germany, in the town of Metzingen. A small factory sewed sports and work clothes, national costumes, hunting kits, raincoats. But already in 1930, the crisis put business in a difficult financial situation. The founder of the brand had no choice but to join the ranks of the then powerful National Socialist Party of Germany.
This move saved the company and all its workers from ruin. But much later, he will bring a loud scandal, as well as many problems for the company. The party gave the factory a large order for sewing uniforms for the German army, including the elite SS troops. Hugo Boss's sewing workshops have been declared inviolable as they are among the important military sites. During the new period of World War II, about 150Polish and several dozen French prisoners were forced to work at the Hugo Boss factory. It was this fact that caused the scandal more than half a century later, in 2000. Then the Hugo Boss company entered the 'Memory, Responsibility, Future' fund and paid large monetary compensation to former prisoners of war and workers of its workshops. The total amount was £ 500,000.

In 1946, Hugo Boss himself was fined a large sum for supporting the Nazi party, and in 1948 he died. After the war, his factory completely switched to sewing uniforms for the railways and the German postal service. But the lucky star of fortune shone for the brand only in 1953, when the first men's Hugo Boss suit was released. At the same time, the talented Austrian Werner Baldessarini was invited to the position of designer. This was the beginning of the triumphal march of the German brand on the catwalk of the global fashion industry!
Already in the 70s, the company achieved global success. The clothes she produces are gradually moving from the mass market sector to the haute couture category.
