  • The trimmer is a modern, inexpensive and more convenient tool for the layman. There are both special and regular beard trimmers. The latter are suitable both for cutting hair on the head and for cutting beards and mustaches. Their main difference is in the width of the blade and the variety of attachments.

Another essential tool is a beard comb. It should be in the form of a comb, massage will definitely not work. Depending on the thickness of your beard, choose teeth in width and length. The thicker the beard, the greater the gap between the teeth and the longer their length.

Basic rules for trimming a beard and mustache

First of all, never cut your beard and / or mustache when wet. Wet hair behaves differently than dry hair. Once the hair is dried, it immediately begins to stick out in different directions. And this happens every time you wash your beard or mustache.

Cut beard and mustache hair as little as possible. Every time you go through with a trimmer or scissors, comb your beard or mustache and see the result. Beard hair is very capricious and can be styled in a new way every time. It will be a shame if you cut too much and a bald islet will appear.

Five steps to an irresistible beard

  1. Comb the beard in the direction it grows to hide individual hairs that are longer than others.
  2. Define an outline for your beard. Start at the chin and work towards the jaws or ears, then trim the hair around the outer perimeter of the jawbone. Continue the trim line to the ear and hairline.
  3. Accentuate the line of your beard using the movement of the front trimmer next to your ears. Start from the line you created from the chin towards the ears, working straight down the line of the beard. Now define the top of the beard with a horizontal trimmer movement.
  4. Treat curled and protruding hair ends with gentle strokes with a trimmer or hairdressing scissors. For best results, start at the temple towards the chin – from smooth skin towards the stubble. Go around the Adam's apple and chin with a trimmer or razor to make the end of the beard more pronounced.
  5. Use mustache and beard wax to complete the look of your beard. The wax will help shape your beard.

Five steps to an irresistible mustache

  1. Comb the mustache in different directions – this will hide individual hair and achieve an even mustache line.
  2. Define the outline for your mustache with the trimmer, holding it upright with the blade facing you.
  3. Frame your mustache. Holding the trimmer on the marking side, go over the mustache starting in the middle to trim it, then trim the right corners slightly from the middle.
  4. Taper the mustache by holding the trimmer with the marking side away from you. Take a medium or short attachment and starting in the middle, work over the lip and mustache line until you get the shape you want.
  5. Finish the mustache by holding the trimmer with the blade towards you and use only one blade to form the final line at the bottom of the mustache.
  6. Use mustache wax to fix the tips of your mustache all day!

Finally

Of course, if you doubt your ability to trim your beard and mustache, go to the professionals. On the other hand, based on your experience, it takes quite a bit of practice to master the basics of trimming a beard and mustache. Personally, I cut a beard from a master once every 2-3 months, but I equalize a little every week on my own using a trimmer. Yet the hairdresser sees more and better aligns the entire beard. On the other hand, it doesn't make sense to go to the hairdresser every week, so exercise on cats your beard.
