How not to freeze in jeans in winter

Jeans

Very soon, very cold weather will set in the streets, given that the end of October is outside the window. You will have to somehow warm up and try not to freeze in your favorite jeans. Here's the harsh truth for you: jeans are not the best fabric for a cold, snowy winter. But I will try to give 4 practical tips on how to stay warm in jeans in winter.

Cotton jeans are not particularly helpful against wind or slush, the main plagues of cold weather. I'm not even talking about wet snow, which periodically occurs in late autumn and early spring. Jeans are the most important part of the wardrobe of most men and you really don't want to change them for something else.

In this case, there are several ways that jeans lovers can make this part of their wardrobe more functional. Here are my recommendations for wearing jeans in winter.

Tip 1: Buy jeans designed for cold weather

An easy way is to buy winter jeans. The most common improvement for standard jeans is extra lining. Flannel jeans are classics (usually checkered), so many companies use synthetic fleece-based materials such as polar fleece or sherpa (a type of fleece that looks like sheep's wool) as the lining.

This layer perfectly insulates and warms, but it is not wind and moisture resistant.

Flannel and other jeans are suitable for calm, sunny weather. Either for the cold, but indoors – working in a garage or store with a constantly opening door, you will not be constantly under gusts of wind or snow.

Unfortunately for men who like to dress up, I have never seen a 'stylish' pair of flannel jeans.

Most of them are straight and wide enough, with a high waist and not tapered. They may be warm, but you can't paint them on. And this is not surprising – they are designed to work!

Tip 2. Buy 'heavy' jeans

Weighted jeans can be an alternative for men who want to stay warm and look stylish.

Denim rolls are measured in ounces per yard. Major retailers do not indicate weight, but typically standard blue jeans weigh around 12-16 ounces (340-453 g).

Heavier jeans are made from thicker and stiffer fabrics. These jeans are insulated and water-repellent. Cotton isn't the best material for wet weather, but weighted jeans can take longer to worry about snow.

Well, good news for dudes: many small manufacturers for denim boutiques sew jeans of different weights, including heavy ones.

Look for independent manufacturers – they can be the best option for buying stylish people, as they work with both light and heavy fabric.

They wear out a little longer, but in winter you will feel the difference compared to the classic ones.

Tip 3. Wear thermal underwear under your jeans

If you can't find lined jeans that fit you, wear a lining under your clothes.

Thermal underwear and classic underpants are the obvious choice here. They are easy to find everywhere, from malls to street vendors and sporting goods stores.

Don't rule out other options – everything from jogging pants to stretch yoga pants will work as an insulating layer under your jeans. The main thing is that they are tight enough (and jeans – loose), otherwise the protruding fabric will form folds. Synthetics and waterproof materials make excellent insulating layers.

Tip 4: Wear jeans as an inner layer

Another option (especially for people who have to wade through the snow and then look good wherever they go) is to wear water-repellent clothing over jeans so that they can then be removed when they are no longer needed. A water-repellent coated jumpsuit may not win first prize at a fashion show, but it is warm, efficient and quick to open and remove when you step inside.

You can also use unlined canvas pants to protect your jeans from a long winter walk. Most people don't even bother with extra pants, but even a pair of soft pajama pants and a pair of canvas pants on top of them make a great winter suit.

Balance your needs with your budget and resources, but never hesitate to wear another layer of clothing over your jeans in winter. Where you come from, you can easily take off your top pair of pants, but you will always look great in dry jeans.
