Making games with realistic graphics is becoming very expensive, and new game consoles are no longer very different from the previous generation. That is why virtual reality helmets began to appear. Such a device is an inexpensive way to offer the player something completely new. But which helmet should you choose? This is the question that this collection will try to answer.

Best inexpensive virtual reality glasses for smartphones

HOMIDO V1

Rating: 4.7

HOMIDO V1

A fairly simple helmet that works with a smartphone installed inside. Devices with a screen diagonal of four to six inches are supported. The position of the lenses inside is easily adjustable. The viewing angle in these glasses does not exceed 100 °. However, this parameter is found in almost all glasses used in conjunction with a smartphone.

The product got into our rating due to its configuration. The fact is that the buyer additionally receives three pairs of lens cones. They are designed to fit into a helmet depending on the user's vision. That is, one pair is useful for myopia, the other for hyperopia, and the third for normal vision. Also included are a strap, a dust cloth and a soft case.

Of course, such glasses have some drawbacks. In particular, not everyone will like the price tag reaching 3000 rubles. Also, the installation of a smartphone is not very convenient here. The clip also does not have rubber pads – you will have to glue them yourself, unless, of course, you want to save your mobile device.

Advantages

  • Suitable for smartphones with almost any screen size;

  • Nice case included;

  • The glasses are suitable for people with a wide range of vision;

  • Convenient adjustment of focus and interpupillary distance;

  • Relatively light weight (195 g).

disadvantages

  • Inconvenient plastic clip for a smartphone;

  • The cost may seem overpriced.

HIPER VRX

Rating: 4.6

HIPER VRX

For some time now, HIPER has been producing more than just portable batteries. Now other accessories for smartphones are rolling off its assembly line, for example, VRX virtual reality glasses. At the time of compilation of the rating, these glasses could be purchased the cheapest of all – their cost in Russia is only 1,500 rubles. Of course, you can order such an accessory from China even cheaper, but then you will have to spend at least a month waiting for delivery.

VR glasses are designed for smartphones with screens ranging from 4.3 to 6 inches. As with other similar products, focus and interpupillary distance can be adjusted without any problems. It uses 42mm lenses to view 3D images. They do not shine with quality, but you will hardly expect durability from such an inexpensive helmet – such a 'toy' is bought literally a couple of times.

There were some drawbacks here. Unfortunately, the accessory turned out to be heavy – its weight reaches 360 g. And this is without taking into account the smartphone! In a word, not everyone will find such a design on the face comfortable.

Advantages

  • Convenient adjustment of interpupillary distance and focus;

  • There is a magnetic button for control in games;

  • Suitable for smartphones with different screen sizes;

  • Low cost;

  • High build quality.

disadvantages

  • A smartphone adhesive latch isn't a good idea;

  • It is very inconvenient to clean the lenses from dust;

  • Great weight.

HOMIDO Grab

Rating: 4.5

HOMIDO Grab

Another pretty cheap glasses. They got into our rating not only because of the price tag, which does not exceed 1300 rubles, but also because of the large number of color options. The body of the accessory can be painted black, white, blue, red, yellow or even pink. Otherwise, these are typical VR glasses for a smartphone. However, a very large or too compact device can no longer be inserted here – phones with a screen with a diagonal of 4.5 to 5.7 inches are supported. The viewing angle is absolutely typical for this type of accessory – it is 100 °.

The product is lighter than the one from HIPER discussed above. At the same time, there is also a magnetic button here, which is needed in many VR applications. Alas, the accessory did not benefit from the savings. If your vision is not perfect, then it is better to consider buying some other glasses. The fact is that there is no focus adjustment here, and putting on such a helmet along with ordinary glasses is not very convenient. The creators also simplified the design of the product. They haven't even fitted their creation with straps! In this regard, this model is definitely not suitable for games – it only serves to view some kind of educational VR applications.

Advantages

  • Several body color options;

  • Low cost;

  • Not very heavy;

  • The glasses are suitable for smartphones with the most popular screen sizes;

  • There is a magnetic button.

disadvantages

  • Glasses are not fixed on the head;

  • No focus adjustment.

The best virtual reality glasses (helmets) in terms of price-quality ratio

Samsung Gear VR (SM-R323)

Rating: 4.9

Samsung Gear VR (SM-R323)

At first glance, these are typical VR glasses with a 101 ° viewing angle. But in fact, in terms of its convenience, this accessory is almost as good as much more expensive competitors, already equipped with their own screen. The fact is that the creators of these glasses did not need to adapt to the huge number of existing smartphones. The helmet is tailored strictly for Samsung's flagship products, starting with the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6. If you insert just such a device here, you can get the maximum experience from immersion in virtual reality.

The accessory has a focus adjustment, so even people with poor eyesight can use it. A lot of unique games have been developed specifically for Gear VR, which is also good news. Also, on different sites, you can find VR-video, also sharpened for this platform. It should be noted that there is a separate connector here for connecting a charger – this is very important, because time in virtual reality flies unnoticed, and such games consume a lot of energy. By the way, the high cost of glasses is associated with the presence of a touch control panel – it is because of it that the product cannot be used in tandem with absolutely any smartphone based on Android.

Advantages

  • Ideal for Samsung flagship smartphones;

  • There is a touch control panel;

  • Focus setting has been implemented;

  • Easy connection of the charger;

  • The set contains two replaceable USB holders.

disadvantages

  • The weight of the accessory reaches 345 g;

  • The cost reaches 4000 rubles;

  • The glasses are not intended for ordinary Android devices;

  • The picture quality is sometimes poor.

HIPER VRQ +

Rating: 4.8

HIPER VRQ +

There are several virtual reality glasses in the HIPER range. VRQ + is the most advanced model at the moment. The strap adjustment system is slightly better implemented here. Almost any smartphone can be installed here, with the exception of giant phablets with a screen diagonal of more than 6 inches. But the main distinguishing feature of the accessory, thanks to which it is marked by the online magazine, is the presence of a special Bluetooth joystick in the kit. On its body there is a stick and a couple of buttons – all this allows you to control your character in games, as well as to master some functions in VR applications.

Glasses allow you to adjust not only focus, but also the interpupillary distance of the lenses. They fit to the face with soft foam pads. Unfortunately, the specialists from HIPER did not manage to achieve the minimum weight here either. Nevertheless, the product deserves its place in the ranking.

Advantages

  • The glasses are suitable for any smartphones;

  • Focus and interpupillary distance can be adjusted;

  • The cost does not exceed 2500 rubles;

  • Supplied with Bluetooth – remote control;

  • Good build quality.

disadvantages

  • Weight reaches 380 g;

  • Not the most convenient smartphone mount.

Fibrum Pro

Rating: 4.7

Fibrum Pro

Excellent VR glasses from a Russian manufacturer. The product has an original appearance – Fibrum Pro can never be confused with other accessories considered in our rating. Also here the viewing angle is increased to 110 °, which is very well felt in games and even videos. At the same time, the glasses support the installation of smartphones with a screen diagonal of 4 to 6 inches. However, the largest viewing angle is achievable only when using very large devices, you cannot argue with the laws of optics in this regard.

Fibrum Pro is the lightest VR headset in our ranking. The creators managed to achieve this not only through the use of lightweight plastic, but also through the rejection of mechanical parts. There is no need to adjust the interpupillary distance due to the large diameter and decent viewing angle. Well, the lack of focus adjustment is already much sadder – a person with poor eyesight will have to wear Fibrum Pro along with their usual glasses.

The main advantage of this model is the branded store of applications and games. This is one of the few glasses for which separate games are developed that cannot be played using some Chinese VR Box 2.0.

Advantages

  • Weight reduced to a record 120 g;

  • Extended viewing angle;

  • The glasses are suitable for any smartphones;

  • Original design;

  • Reliable construction;

  • Games designed specifically for Fibrum Pro are available.

disadvantages

  • No interpupillary distance and focus adjustment;

  • The cost reaches 4000 rubles.

The best virtual reality glasses and helmets for PC

HTC Vive

Rating: 4.9

HTC Vive

Perhaps the best virtual reality headset available to the average user. The device is designed to be connected to a computer. To a very powerful, I must say, a computer. Also, it will require a decent free space, since special sensors must be hung around. But on the other hand, this allows the system to track the movements of not only the head, but actually the whole body! This makes immersion in virtual reality much more tangible.

Inside this helmet is a display with a resolution of 2160 x 1200 pixels. This is quite enough to almost not see the pixelation. The interpupillary distance is adjustable, as well as the focal length – this allows you to use the helmet without glasses with diopters even for a person with not the best vision. Also, one cannot fail to note the viewing angle, which reaches 110 ° here. The set with the product comes with special joysticks, with the help of which the interaction with the game world is carried out. By the way, it is better to play with headphones – the device also has a connector for connecting such.

Advantages

  • Comes with dedicated joysticks;

  • Inside there is a high-quality AMOLED – display;

  • Body position is monitored;

  • Wide viewing angle;

  • Focus and interpupillary distance are adjustable;

  • There is a built-in microphone and a front camera;

  • Easy headphone connection;

  • Sweep frequency increased to 90 Hz.

disadvantages

  • Requires a large room;

  • Increased requirements for computer performance;

  • The cost reaches 43 thousand rubles.

Oculus Rift CV1 + Touch

Rating: 4.8

Oculus Rift CV1 + Touch

At one time, it was the Oculus Rift helmet that made the direction of virtual reality much more popular. You have probably seen departments in shopping and entertainment centers where they offer to immerse themselves in the VR world – most often it is the Oculus Rift that is used there, only a preliminary version. CV1 is already a consumer option with more compact dimensions and fewer wires.

Each eye in such a helmet sees a picture with a resolution of 1200 x 1080 pixels. The viewing angle here is 110 °, which is the optimal parameter. It should be noted that the helmet comes with headphones, so you don't need to think about connecting them separately. Also included in the set for 36-38 thousand rubles. includes mapipulators called Touch.

Why is Oculus Rift CV1 cheaper than its competitor from HTC? It's simple: here the system can only track the position of the user's head. Alas, body movements are not tracked. But on the other hand, in such a helmet you can safely sit in a chair, thereby resting. Another difference is the refresh rate, which does not exceed 75 Hz here. However, even with such shortcomings, this is one of the best VR headsets in our ranking.

Advantages

  • The set includes special gamepads;

  • High resolution built-in display;

  • Large viewing angle;

  • The minimum number of wires;

  • Built-in headphones;

  • Support for a very large number of games.

disadvantages

  • I would like a higher refresh rate;

  • High PC requirements;

  • Few AAA games.

Sony PlayStation VR

Rating: 4.8

Sony PlayStation VR

At one time, the Japanese company Sony decided to enter the market of VR devices. She created a helmet intended for the PS4 game console (preferably the Pro version of the console). A display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels is hidden inside this device. Each eye sees a picture with a resolution of 960 x 1080 pixels – this parameter is not too high, but you quickly forget about the graininess when the game begins to captivate yourself. A lot of hits have been released for PS VR – Resident Evil VII, Robinson, DOOM FVR, Driveclub VR and Skyrim VR can be noted.

Of course, this product is slightly simpler than helmets designed for a computer. The Japanese had to be sophisticated, because the power of the game console cannot be called limitless. They even had to develop a separate computing unit that can be placed on or next to the console. It is suggested to control the gameplay using a traditional Dualshock 4 gamepad or a pair of 'Movs'. I am glad that the picture is displayed at a frequency of 90 to 120 Hz – smoothness contributes to almost perfect immersion in virtual reality.

Please note that at the end of 2017, a second version of the helmet was released, which is practically not identified on store shelves. It differs from the original only in the presence of earplugs.

Advantages

  • Comfortable fit on the head;

  • Relatively low cost (22-26 thousand rubles);

  • Not bad OLED – display with increased refresh rate;

  • There are 'big' games specifically for PS VR.

disadvantages

  • Not the widest viewing angle (100 °);

  • Requires PS4;

  • The picture is not of high quality;

  • A large number of wires and an additional computing unit.

Conclusion

While virtual reality helmets can seem like an expensive pleasure. However, when using them, you will quickly forget about the money you paid. Especially if this helmet is designed to be paired with a computer or Sony PS4. As for VR glasses for a smartphone, this will be a purchase for a couple of uses. However, why not give it a try, since such accessories are not that expensive anymore?
