When choosing a tubing, it is recommended to pay attention to its following parameters:

1. A type. Distinguish between summer and winter tubing;
2. The size. It can be expressed both in actual dimensions (cm) and in the number of passengers;
3. Material. The reliability and durability of the tubing depends on it;
4. The type of handles and their attachment method.

The type of tubing determines not only the scope of application, but also the design of the projectile. Summer ones are non-separable inflatable devices – and they are intended for playing on the water. The mechanical strength of the bottom of such projectiles is extremely low, therefore, on snow – especially on thin and just fallen out – they can be easily damaged, being scratched on some thorn sticking out of the ground.

For the most part, winter tubing is just a car tire covered with a PVC casing. They are distinguished by high mechanical strength and resistance to even extreme cold. Top models of winter tubing are complemented by a plastic bottom, which improves glide in case of incorrect weight distribution and is characterized by maximum mechanical strength – you can even ride on gravel slightly powdered with snow on such shells.

There are non-circular winter tubing, the basis of which is not a car camera. These models are usually designed for 2 or more passengers. They are slightly more expensive than those based on a car camera, but from the point of view of performance, they are practically no different – except that they can carry more children or a child with a parent.

The size of the tubing determines its comfort and safety for the passenger. There is one simple rule – the diameter of the projectile should be the same as the height of the child, or slightly larger. So, for example, for a 95-centimeter baby, a 100-centimeter tubing is suitable, but it is better not to take a 90-centimeter one – it is unsafe.

This rule does not apply when it comes to multi-seat tubing. But here it is also worth considering that if the child is going to ride alone, the length of the projectile should correspond to his height or be slightly larger. For riding with an adult, it is better to take a 1.5-meter tubing or even more – but you should not overdo it either. Two-meter, for example, will be difficult to manage.

The material of the tubing directly determines its durability. And it is worth paying special attention to this characteristic.

The best option is tubing, which is made of multi-layer reinforced PVC. This material is resistant to most mechanical damage and easily survives any frost.

If you plan to ride in regions with little snow – where the snow cover is usually uneven and dry bushes stick out from under it or even gravel peeps through – then it is better to take a tubing with a plastic bottom. Cutting through it is not so easy.

The optimum density for PVC, from which the tubing casing is made, is 630 g / m2, the bottom is 900 g / m2. If the material is less dense, then there is a risk of damage when rolling. However, for regions with good snow coverage, this does not really matter.

Budget tubing is made of polyester or nylon with PVC impregnation. The strength characteristics of this material are not as high as those of multilayer reinforced PVC, so the projectile can be easily damaged. In addition, polyester or nylon does not survive very low temperatures (below -15 degrees).

Nevertheless, if you want to take an inexpensive tubing for riding in a snowy mild winter or for a small child who is actively growing every year, then you can pay attention to the models made of polyester or nylon with PVC coating.

Tubing handles can be plastic or rope. The first ones are convenient – you can grab onto them, even if the 'sleds' are rushing down the hill at high speed and covered with snow. But the strength of plastic in severe frosts from -20 degrees leaves much to be desired – the material becomes fragile and can break at any time.

However, top tubing (including some models from the rating) are equipped with handles made of special frost-resistant plastic.

Rope handles do not have this drawback. In addition, they are safer than plastic ones in case of overturns and collisions. However, they tend to snuggle against the tubing cover at high speeds, which will make it difficult to grip.

It is worth choosing based on your preferences. If you do not plan to ride at a very high speed – and the tubing is capable of accelerating to 100 km / h when rolling down a hill from 20 degrees – then you can take a model with rope handles. For convenience or a small child, a shell with plastic is recommended.
