The founder of Lotus once said that winning a race would depend on corners, not speed. And his cars, by the way, were never the fastest on a straight line, which did not prevent them from being the first. Nevertheless, the rivalry between car brands does not stop: auto giants continue to create super-fast cars. And in our today's rating we will focus on the 'monsters' of the road – the fastest cars in the world.

Porsche 9FF GT9-R

Rating: 4.4

Porsche 9FF GT9-R

  1. Maximum speed: 414 km / h
  2. Engine power: 1120 HP
  3. Price: 785.5 thousand dollars

One of the classic models of the Porche 911 brand has never been among those able to set the speed record on the track. But after the well-known German tuning company 9FF took up the upgrade of the car, everything changed dramatically: a superporsche appeared, capable of overcoming the 400 km / h mark. Today it is the most powerful 'representative' of the brand.

More than 1,100 horsepower under the hood of the four-wheeler: all thanks to the upgraded engine from Porsche 996 Turbo – a 4.2 liter turbo engine. The car reaches a speed of 100 km / h in just under 3 seconds. It is curious that the predecessor of this model – Porsche 9FF GT9 was developed with the aim of 'wiping its nose' to another well-known brand – Bugatti.

The creators of the new Porsche wanted to break the speed record for the Bugatti Veyron, and they definitely succeeded (the car's speed was 409 km / h). But the brand did not stop there and decided to improve the maximum speed of its 'heavyweight', creating a slightly faster 'monster' – Porsche 9FF GT9-R. The model is considered serial, although the number of copies produced is scanty – only 20 pieces.

Bugatti Chiron

Rating: 4.5

Bugatti Chiron

  1. Maximum speed: 420 km / h
  2. Engine power: 1500 HP
  3. Price: 2.4 million euros

A worthy replacement for the Veyron, the Chiron has shown some truly amazing track performance. A powerful madman with 1.5 thousand horsepower under the hood, this incredible supercar received an improved engine from its manufacturer – a 4-turbine engine with the latest injection system, the functionality of which is supported by 32 injectors.

The gearbox of this car is represented by a 7-speed robot with 2 (!) Clutches – the most durable on the planet. Just think: this box has more than 1600 Nm of torque. This means that the car can overcome the 100 km / h mark in an incredible 2.5 seconds, and the 200 km / h mark in 6.5 seconds.

In standard mode, this supercar reaches its maximum of 380 km / h. But there is also a second option – for those who like to tickle their nerves: a special key allows you to raise the limit by another 40 km. Thus, the maximum possible speed of the Bugatti Chiron reaches 420 km / h.

The body of the Shiron is almost completely carbon fiber and is perfectly familiar with aerodynamics: what is only a wing with 4 modes of operation, which fully rises when you try to press the gas pedal to the floor. Almost instant braking is provided by a carbon-ceramic braking system with 8-piston calipers at the front and 6-piston calipers at the rear.

Well, and, of course, one cannot fail to mention the 5-mode electronic control system, which controls the response to the pedals, changes the ground clearance, shock absorber stiffness, the sensitivity of the stabilization system, and much more. Not a car, but a masterpiece! The manufacturer decided to stop at around 500: that is how many copies of the Bugatti Chiron were released on the market.

SSC Ultimate Aero TT

Rating: 4.6

SSC Ultimate Aero TT

  1. Maximum speed: 420 km / h
  2. Engine power: 1183 hp
  3. Price: 740 thousand dollars

The fifth line of our rating and one of the fastest supercars in the world. The head of the company and also the creator of a powerful car has been hatching the idea of developing a mega-cool high-speed car for more than one year, capable of showing a high class to European automobile 'monsters'. After 7 years of development, the very Ultimate appeared, which was then improved more than once, and in 2007 the world was presented with the Aero TT model, supplemented a couple of years later with a number of changes.

A powerful dual turbocharging system, an improved power system and an incredibly powerful 6.4-liter engine provide the supercar with impressive power and acceleration to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds. The outer part of the car also underwent tuning: its front part was changed in such a way as to maximize aerodynamic properties.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Rating: 4.7

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

  1. Maximum speed: 435 km / h
  2. Engine power: 1200 hp
  3. Price: $ 2.8 million

The legendary Bugatti have long been the monopolists of the world of heavyweight automobiles: they did not allow anyone to approach their “Olympus” of the fastest and most powerful. But today a lot has changed, and the models from the French manufacturer are no longer considered the best. Nevertheless, this did not diminish their dignity: they are still one of the fastest four-wheelers on the planet.

The original model of the French supercar was presented at the California Elegance Competition, and arrived at the premiere in Pebble Beach with an incredible design – its body was covered with a translucent blue lacquer. The structure of the carbon fiber body panels was clearly visible through it.

The French supercar boasts an 8-liter power unit (W16), comparable in power to 1,200 horses. The motor works harmoniously and effectively in tandem with a 7-speed automatic transmission, accelerating the four-wheeler to 100 km / h in a record 2.5 seconds.

At one time, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport set a speed record, becoming the fastest production car. True, some considered this achievement controversial, since it was installed by a model with improved electronics (which, of course, did not reach the buyers of the car).

Koenigsegg Agera RS

Rating: 4.8

Koenigsegg Agera RS

  1. Maximum speed: 447.2 km / h
  2. Engine power: 1341 hp
  3. Price: $ 2 million

The luxurious hypercar, created by the Swedish genius and presented to the world at the Geneva Motor Show, is a direct and ardent rival to the model from the Bugatti brand. Koenigsegg Agera RS in the year of its launch on the market managed to set 3 records at once: as the fastest production car (the current Guinness World Record), the fastest on the public highway and the fastest in the driving scheme from 0 to 400 and back to 0 km / h .

The car is distinguished from the background of others by a powerful 5-liter turbocharged V-engine, complemented by a 7-speed robotic gearbox and 2 clutches. Coupled with an incredible 1,300 horsepower, this car is capable of delivering incredible results – from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2 seconds.

Interesting fact: to set the main record, the car manufacturer Koenigsegg asked the Nevada Department of Transportation (USA) to block 11 km of the route between Pahrump and Las Vegas. The car covered the selected distance twice and an official result was obtained by obtaining the arithmetic mean.

Hennessey Venom GT

Rating: 4.9

 Hennessey Venom GT

  1. Maximum speed: 453.5 km / h
  2. Engine power: 1244 hp
  3. Price: $ 1.25 million

The brainchild of an American car brand, the Venom GT model set a world speed record among production cars, but unfortunately, it failed to get into the Guinness Book due to a banal reason – it was not a production car (at that time only 30 copies were produced).

The 'poisonous' (this is how the name is translated) model of the Hennessey brand has a 7-liter V8 engine in its arsenal and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2.7 seconds. Created on the Lotus platform, the car has a hydrocarbon body with carbon body kits.

A series of sensors is built into the design, allowing to partially change the position of some of its elements. This achieves ideal clamping properties. And in combination with light-alloy wheels and Michelin-starred low-profile tires, the ride turns into a real soaring above the track.

The discreet design, ergonomic seats covered with first-class calfskin and equipped with 3-point seat belts provide passengers and driver with comfort and safety. A luxurious vein can be purchased for as little as a million and a half dollars.

Hennessey Venom F5

Rating: 5.0

Hennessey Venom F5

  1. Maximum speed: 483 km / h
  2. Engine power: 1600 HP
  3. Price: $ 1.3 million

The car rightfully occupies the first line of the rating of the fastest in the world. In general, the manufacturer of this model is known for a unique approach to working on their 'creations': they are often characterized by a deep upgrade of the 'filling' and excellent external tuning. In addition, the company is often engaged in the finalization of car models of other brands.

The American company worked hard to create its own supercar, competing with the Bugatti company, which was then developing its Bugatti Chiron. The Hennessey Venom F5 is the result of diligent and painstaking development. It is based on a fundamentally new chassis made of lightweight carbon fiber, and under the hood of this 'poisonous' baby a biturbo V8 power unit with a volume of 7.4 liters. This power allows (according to the developer) the car to accelerate to 100 km / h in a record 1.7 seconds, and in 20 seconds the car is able to overcome the 400 km / h mark on the speedometer.

In fact, the Venom F5 model is a qualitatively improved Venom GT – more powerful, durable, technological, aerodynamic. A predatory carbon body, a 6-speed manual transmission or a robotic version with one clutch – all this is the Venom F5. The company decided to abandon the DSG analog box due to weight savings and lack of reliability.

If desired, the set of options for the car can be expanded and upgraded: for this you will have to pay another half a million dollars on top.

Unique models not included in the rating

A couple more examples of surprisingly fast four-wheelers, which for one reason or another are not suitable for the rating, but definitely deserve attention.

Lamborghini Aventador is the fastest police car

Lamborghini Aventador

The Dubai Police boast super powerful and fast vehicles in their fleet, and the Lamborghini Aventador is among them. Indeed, one copy of this mega-fast car in 2013 was allocated specifically for the emirate's law enforcement officers: this was due to the high activity of local street racers. 700 horsepower under the hood and a powerful 6.5-liter engine will leave no chance for troublemakers on the roads – this 'baby' is capable of accelerating to 350 km / h.

Marussia B2 is the fastest car in Russia

Marussia B2

Not the fastest in the world, but also not “grazing the rear” – the car is impressive not only in its appearance. Although its design is also noteworthy: the composite body panels are fixed directly to the frame. At one time, this car made a lot of noise, although it did not pretend to be the fastest: under the hood it has a 2.8 liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with a capacity of only 420 horsepower. Nevertheless, the model is quite decent and the best in the Russian open spaces: its speed limit is 300 km / h.

hrust SSC – the fastest turbine machine

hrust SSC

Turbine cars are out of our rating, since such devices are not considered as an option for moving on a city road. And, nevertheless, it is the turbine cars that are considered the fastest in the world. One of the striking examples is the world record holder on land – Thrust SSC. In 1997, this jet 'monster' swept across the Nevada Desert (USA) at a speed of 1227 km / h.
