In the concept of domestic fishermen, casting is spinning fishing with the use of a special multiplier reel, which is a more advanced version of the outdated and almost obsolete 'drums'. In this combination, the rods can be used when fishing from the bank or from the side of the boat for standard trolling, twitching, jigging or more 'hardcore' jerking. In addition to using fundamentally different reels, casting spinning rods have a number of other, more subtle differences that must be taken into account when choosing.

How to choose a spinning rod for casting

Appearance and device. A parameter that clearly defines the belonging of the spinning rod to the casting group. The main difference from standard models is the presence of a protrusion in the area above the handle, as well as the setting of the rings mainly in the upper part of the blank. The first is necessary in order to ensure a confident grip of the rod during various jerking manipulations. The second is to ensure long-distance casts by significantly reducing the line drag forces when coming off the spool. In addition, the place for installing the coil (devoid of the bottom tie) has only the top mount.

Rod class. Conventionally, all casting rods are divided into four classes:

  1. light-medium – jig-twitch casting spinning rods, the test of which is limited to 16 grams;

  2. medium – medium (the most optimal for twitching) fishing rods with dough up to 21 grams;

  3. medium-heavy – medium-heavy class (for coastal twitching and board fishing) with baits up to 28 grams;

  4. heavy – heavy rods for oceanic or river hunting for trophies, the maximum weight of lures on which reaches 45 grams.

There are other options, however, the above ones make up 90% of the total variety of models in the segment.

  1. Length. Among domestic fishermen, the greatest demand is for short rods (1.8-2.1 meters), which are equally suitable for fishing from the side of a boat and for casting on the open banks of reservoirs. More 'taller' casting rods are purchased in case of ultra-long casts, useful when fishing at a distance from an overgrown shore.

  2. Weight and sensitivity. One of the most important parameters of a casting spinning rod, which determine its productivity and information content. When sticking to the model of choice for this aspect, remember the 'golden' rule: lighter rods (especially in combination with an inextensible line) have more pronounced sensitivity.

SHIMANO Lesath CX Spinning 210M

Rating: 4.9

SHIMANO Lesath CX Spinning 210M

Not a single elite rating is complete without the genius of the Japanese company SHIMANO, recognized by everyone and all. This time, a very expensive, but at the same time very catchy and high-quality model of the Lesath CX Spinning 210M casting rod was included in the list of the best. The 210-centimeter model weighs 128 grams (an extra 20 was given at the mercy of increasing the strength of the structure) and is intended for a variety of types of fishing.

With the ability to fish without any visible problems with lures weighing up to 30 grams, the 210M (in the hands of experienced anglers) can even turn into a mini-jerk rod. The paradox of the model lies in the fact that, despite the additional reinforcement of the blank profile with Kevlar fiber, the sensitivity of the fishing rod not only remained the same, but also improved somewhat compared to earlier versions. Thus, potential buyers (especially beginners) can only be confused by the high price and non-canon style of the handle, which is not complemented by a protrusion for a fixed grip.

Advantages

  • lightweight (by 20%) and reinforced version of Lesath CX series spinning rods;

  • catchability and versatility rolled into one;

  • high quality cork handle;

  • rings with titanium anti-lapping frames;

disadvantages

  • high cost (fully compensated by other parameters);

  • somewhat non-canon form for casting.

Graphiteleader Tiro 762L and 792ML

Rating: 4.8

Graphiteleader Tiro 762L

Two ultra-sweeping models that are the special pride of Graphiteleader. Despite the level of cost, they are very popular with professional anglers and a somewhat more modest amateur audience. The philosophy of the 762L and 792ML is such that both casting spinning rods are sharpened mainly for long cast fishing. This is facilitated by the lengths of the rods, which are 229 and 236 centimeters, respectively. Both belong to the light class and are characterized, in general, by the same light weight (99 grams for the 762L and 106 for the 792ML). But in terms of the test, there is a large imbalance. The 792 model is more suitable for aggressive twitching and mini-jerking, with lures weighing up to 22 grams (in reality, the upper threshold is slightly higher – about 28-30 grams). In turn, the 762 preaches, rather, a jig-twitch approach, focusing on weights in the range of 1-12 grams.

Advantages

  • versatile rings on the blank of the rod (on the butt – with stainless frames, on the tip – with titanium);

  • tight knee joint in the seats;

  • high sensitivity (even despite the length);

  • versatility in terms of approaches to fishing;

disadvantages

  • high price.

St. Croix Avid Spinning Rod AVS66MLF2

Rating: 4.8

St. Croix Avid Spinning Rod AVS66MLF2

Despite the fact that the Avid Spinning Rod AVS66MLF2 from St. Croix does not show anything outstanding in terms of performance, consumers still rank it among the category of outstanding casting rods. The reason for this is simple: the American company has established itself as a manufacturer of some of the most reliable rods, and this title must be reckoned with.

The 198-cm model AVS66MLF2 is designed for catching pike, chub, tench and perch with lures weighing from 3.5 to 10.5 grams – and, judging by user reviews, shows excellent performance. Most often, you can find minnow wobblers (typical for twitching), tails and light spinners (spoons and spinners) as bait. The price level is consistently high, but it is somewhat leveled by the build quality and durability of the product.

Advantages

  • high degree of component reliability;

  • high-quality body kit;

  • optimal length (198 cm);

  • versatility (suitable for all local reservoirs and any type of wiring);

disadvantages

  • casting leaves much to be desired;

  • high cost (partially offset by durability and quality).

Graphiteleader Vigore Nuovo GNVIC-67ML

Rating: 4.7

Graphiteleader Vigore Nuovo GNVIC-67ML

From a technological point of view, Vigore Nuovo GNVIC-67ML is the leader in the rating in terms of innovations introduced into the production process. The crossover of the company's fresh developments and the timeless classics represented by the Vigore series presented the fishing world with a fast action casting spinning rod that can work far beyond the permissible loads. Using the Graphiteleader carbon fiber cross-winding technology, the blank walls were further thinned. However, such an unstable construction could not provide the required level of endurance, so the carbon base was reinforced with Kevlar Graphite Cloth.

The Vigore Nuovo GNVIC-67ML test range varies between 3.5 and 14 grams, which, in general, is enough for productive fishing for a solid predator. Unfortunately, such a technologically advanced spinning rod has one very pressing problem – since technologies are expensive, their implementation also strongly affects the final cost of the product.

Advantages

  • the use of a number of modern technologies in the production;

  • high-quality body kit (titanium coated rings);

  • the presence of excess strength of a thin-walled structure (up to +5 kilograms);

  • high quality build;

disadvantages

  • extra-high price (up to 30 thousand rubles).

Black Hole ONES S-672MH 201cm 5-28g

Rating: 4.6

Black Hole ONES S-672MH 201cm 5-28g

Casting spinning rod, distinguished by its meek disposition and perfection of action when working under heavy load. Black Hole ONES C-672MH is not afraid to take on a little more than stated by the manufacturer – this fact has been proven more than once at a professional level. Actually, one should not expect anything else from the model: the manufacturers have successfully selected the material of manufacture (high-modulus carbon), which literally predetermined the power, lightness and high degree of sensitivity of the blank.

As for the technical characteristics, the Black Hole ONES C-672MH can boast of 201 centimeters long for fishing from a boat, a test in the range of 5-28 grams and a line load in the region of 7-11 kilograms (taking into account the aforementioned safety factor). Coupled with an attractive price, such conditions look impressive, however, the overall impression is somewhat spoiled by the presence of body kits of dubious quality (which annoyed consumers also did not hesitate to inform about).

Advantages

  • the presence of a safety factor (+2 kilograms according to the form);

  • satisfactory build.

  • low cost level;

  • optimal length for board and shore fishing;

disadvantages

  • rings from an unverified manufacturer.

Zemex Ultimate

Rating: 4.5

Zemex Ultimate

The top line of casting rods from the Zemex company called Ultimate does not lag behind the leading group. The general characteristics of the models of this group are as follows: hard, light and 'charged' spinning rods of extra-fast action, focused on long-range casting, aggressive jerking guidance and active predator fishing. In general, consumers confirm such conclusions, focusing on the originality of each model within one series.

One of the most popular casting rods in the Ultimate line is the 210 cm specimen, designed for lures weighing from 8 to 32 grams. It would seem that there can be no compromising and negative factors here. However, by the will of their own omission, Zemex set an unpleasant precedent in the consumer environment by releasing a model with exactly the same markings, but oriented towards a smaller test and therefore suitable for slightly different needs.

Advantages

  • a high degree of versatility (spinning rods of the series are suitable for almost all types of fishing);

  • durability;

  • body kit and pre-installed coil from Fuji;

  • lightweight construction;

disadvantages

  • confusion in marking within the same ruler.

Norstream Kando KDS-662L Technic Master

Rating: 4.5

Norstream Kando KDS-662L Technic Master

The Kando KDS-662L Technic Master from Norstream has become a worthy representative of the casting rod segment. The main advantage of this fishing rod is rightfully its excessive strength, which has been tested and praised more than once by satisfied consumers. According to the developers themselves, the extra-fast action hard spinning rod is designed to use lures weighing from 3 to 10 grams. But many fishermen managed to dispel this myth, proving that the upper limit is very conditional (and calculated, rather, for twitching than for even and accurate lure). Also, as a plus, fishing rods can be added to the length, which is optimal for fishing from a boat and into casting from the shore, equal to 198 centimeters.

But, even with balance and excess strength taken into account, the Kando KDS-662L Technic Master could not avoid shortcomings. The cost of a two-piece rod, even with all the 'advances' discovered, remains high for a large group of anglers.

Advantages

  • the presence of excess strength (works well with baits up to 20 grams);

  • good ergonomics (comfortable EVA handle);

  • high efficiency when fishing for pike, ide and chub;

  • light weight (99 grams);

disadvantages

  • high price.
