Mora ice expert pro
The 'Expert' series of ice augers from Mora is the undisputed leader in our rating. As consumers note, one hole drilled will be enough to feel the difference in the class of fixtures. In addition to a very rich selection of auger diameters (110, 130, 150 and 200 millimeters), Ice Expert Pro offers a very aggressive setting of the knives, located at a large angle to the horizon. Such geometry of the cutting part helps ice screws to immediately 'bite' into the ice crust and drill holes up to 120-130 centimeters deep on-line.
The performance of the Mora Ice Expert Pro ice screw is capable of impressing even experienced anglers. This line performs well on various types of ice: dry, wet, porous, layered, double, etc. The auger (and the blades) is incredibly resistant to wear and tear. So, in order to achieve the first chips of enamel on the turns with moderate use, it takes about four to five years. According to the general set of criteria, this series is the highest quality product in the segment, which, to the great delight of consumers, has a completely acceptable cost.
- The optimum ratio of price and quality;
- the angle of the cutting part, which makes it possible to instantly and deeply cut into the ice;
- durable knives made of high carbon alloy steel, resistant to bluntness and corrosion (up to 64 HRC);
- persistent color of the body and turns of the auger;
- not found.
Scandinavian Style 130
It may seem strange, but Scandinavian Style 130 is an exact copy of the well-known Mora Viking ice screw, which conquered domestic fishermen with its simplicity in maintenance, drilling speed and ease of operation. This blatant plagiarism unexpectedly found a lot of advantages: firstly, according to the principle of interchangeability, knives from the Mora company can be put here. Secondly, it turns out that the morally obsolete Viking never disappeared from the market – the notorious reincarnation took place.
Among the indisputable advantages of the Scandinavian Style 130 ice auger, consumers consider an elegant work on dry and wet ice, a reliable design with a minimum of backlash during operation, as well as a very rare need for sharpening knives. The latter is not surprising: despite the Chinese origin, Scandinavian knives have a hardness of about 62 HRC and a sufficient toughness, which ensures excellent blade retention over a long period of use. When it comes to cost issues, this ice auger significantly outperforms its opponents in segment – a purchase worthy of a true master of his craft.
- an exact copy of the mega-popular Mora Viking drill;
- equally good and tenacious work on dry and wet ice;
- high quality of structural elements;
- complete interchangeability of 'native' knives with knives from Mora;
- not found.
MORA ICE EASY 125 mm
Experts call the Mora Ice Easy 125 ice drill the most affordable of the Mora line, emphasizing the exclusivity of the series in a general sense. Thanks to the classic telescopic design, this auger can be adjusted in height for more convenient drilling of ice of various depths. Actually, the maximum value of this parameter is as much as 90 centimeters – not all analogues will be capable of this. In addition, Ice Easy provides consumers with ample upgrade opportunities, having a special attachment for connecting a motor drive. However, turning the ice screw manually is also not the most power-consuming thing: both hands are involved in the rotation and, thanks to the sharpest knives, it turns out to drill a hole in the ice quite quickly.
Of the other positive aspects in the Mora Ice Easy 125 ice drill, the total mass does not exceed 2.4 kilograms. In general, this ice screw does not have pronounced drawbacks (with the exception of a small angle of contact of the blade with the ice), since both the design itself and the knives in particular have excellent performance indicators. And there can be no complaints about the price: for a foreign product it is more than acceptable.
- quality knives made of high carbon alloy steel;
- the presence of adapters for a motor drive;
- the ability to drill ice up to 90 cm thick;
- optimal weight indicators (2.4 kg);
- atypical guidance of the auger (drilling occurs clockwise);
- small cutting angle of the knife (slows down the drilling process).
TONAR Two-handed LR-150D
An extremely popular domestically produced ice screw, sold in the vast majority of fishing shops in Russia. It quite deservedly enjoys the fame of a 'worthy answer' to foreign analogs, not inferior to them either in terms of quality or value. It's no joke, but even in modern conditions 'TONAR Two-handed' LR-150D can be found for 1,500 rubles – no consumer can refuse such an outright freebie.
From the performance characteristics of the ice auger, consumers note a high degree of comfort when drilling holes and the 'survivability' of the knives, which remain sharp even with frequent use during the season. Despite this, their quality cannot be called standard: according to experts, the alloy steel of the knives is severely lacking in chromium, therefore, foci of corrosion begin to appear after several full-fledged fishing trips. However, in the light of the 'generous' advantages, such nuances mean almost nothing: replaceable elements are easy to find, and they are much cheaper than foreign ones.
- very low price;
- the presence of two covers (plastic for the blades and fabric for the lower part of the auger);
- high durability of knives (they remain sharp even after a busy fishing season);
- compactness when folded;
- susceptibility of knives to the rapid occurrence of foci of corrosion.
Alligator Thunder (130mm)
The classic ice screw, which meets all modern quality standards, deserves a place in the ranking of the best. It is an intermediate modification of the Thunder series, the screw diameter of which is 130 millimeters. Provides drilling of holes of a fairly universal size, suitable for catching small predators (perches, chebaks, etc.) and fishing out large trophy samples from the depth (with a fishing rod or girder).
Like most competitors in the segment, the pAlligator Thunder 130 icebreaker uses Swedish drilling technology that requires minimal silage to get one hole. As a cutting element on the auger, spherical knives made of alloy steel are used, the hardness of which is close to the mark of 62 HRC. They do not require frequent regrinding and bite into dry and wet ice very quickly. Differs in adherence to standards and design of the base of the ice screw, made as a telescopic. If you do not take into account the cost, which exceeds the offer of competitors, this ice screw is capable of claiming the highest places in the segment, especially since the number of advantages allows this.
- reduced weight of the structure (2.3 kilograms);
- noticeable bright color;
- classic telescopic design, satisfactory compactness;
- very resistant knives that do not require changing and frequent sharpening;
- high cost relative to closest competitors.
