How to choose an inflatable boat

When choosing an inflatable boat for productive swims on reservoirs, it is extremely important to determine the key characteristics:

Boat length. A parameter that affects both the capacity of the inflatable vessel and its purpose. If in the future it will be used only as a model for a walk, then a boat up to 2.0 meters in size would be an ideal choice. If fishing or hunting is a priority, then you should focus on both the number of people who will swim with you and the amount of cargo required.

Capacity. As a recommendation for this characteristic, we will immediately give approximate guidelines for the minimum length:

1. for single fishing, this figure can vary from 2.0 to 3, – meters (depending on the number of tackle that you take with you);
2. boats from 3.0 to 4.5 meters are suitable for two or three people;
3. four or more people will perfectly accommodate on ships from 5 meters, but such models, due to low demand, are quite rare.

Strength. This parameter is determined by what material is used to make the body of the inflatable boat. By modern standards, almost all models are sewn from PVC (polyvinyl chloride), which contains 5-9 thin layers with binding threads. Such material does an excellent job with its functions in open water, however, for swimming in driftwood, bushes, reeds or in shallow water, it is better to use boats with a more solid base, so as not to accidentally damage the cylinders. It can be either reinforced PVC (with additional layers of a strong base) or a material with a special surface impregnation.

Seam type. According to the classification, the seams on the boat can be glued or welded. The first type is found on the vast majority of cheap boats, and is not reliable in the long term. It is the welded seams that are considered to be of the highest quality, since the probability of their disclosure is high only with aging of the material.

Bottom type. According to this classification, the bottom of the boat can be

1. hard – made of processed wood or duralumin. It gives the structure rigidity and strength, but it takes a long time to assemble and requires more space.
2. non-inflatable – the most impractical from the point of view of operation bottom, made of rubberized PVC or other dense material. Absolutely unstable, can get an accidental puncture, but at the same time boats with such a bottom are cheaper than others.
3. inflatable – a more comfortable type of bottom, made, as a rule, of the same material as the main part of the boat. Differs in higher stability and increases the carrying capacity, but weighs more, and the probability of puncture is also high.

Optional add-ons. In some cases, even cheap inflatable boats can have such structural elements as a water drain check valve, additional attachments for the fuel tank, seat pads, rigid protection of the submerged part of the cylinders and the bottom, etc. We strongly recommend that you pay attention to this, as add-ons can bring a lot of benefits in the course of regular use.

Both the bottom and the cylinders are made of reinforced PVC fabric with a density of 1200 g / m2, due to which the maximum strength and reliability of the model is achieved in the long term. The equipment with a motor implies the possibility of placing a 50-horsepower unit on the transom, which is capable of accelerating the vessel to 70-80 kilometers per hour.

Among other features of Poseidon PN 500, we note that the diameter of the cylinders is 62 centimeters – this is the best result in the selection, however, the pumping and complete assembly of the vessel takes an extremely long time. The applied floor liner is standard, plywood, 12 millimeters thick, does not always live up to the limit state of the entire boat, and requires re-acquisition over the years of use. In general, in terms of overall dimensions, this is the best option in the category. True, the availability of his choice is not a prerogative for everyone.

The reason for this lies in the completely redesigned bottom, which made it possible to increase ride comfort on waves and improve seakeeping.

The model has a maximum payload of 740 kilograms, and as a small 'frigate' for two or three people it will be great. But the declared six passengers will be rather cramped in it: during fishing, various kinds of problems may arise due to the lack of operational space for swing or fishing. However, the Kasatka KS 385 Marine is also used as a boat for racing competitions, which neither we nor the experts expected to see.

Despite the fact that the carrying capacity of this boat is obviously lower than that of the competitor Gladiator C 420 DP (only 900 kilograms), its strength characteristics are at a much higher level. This is facilitated by the high density of PVC material (1200 g / m2), the presence of welded seams and an additional reinforced layer. All this, coupled with its large dimensions, gave 95 kilograms of weight, the transportation of which is quite difficult for one person.

All in all, ProfMarine PM450CL is designed to comfortably accommodate 7 people: for this, the set includes a thick plywood floor and standard hard seats. Thanks to the keel, the boat has excellent maneuverability on the water, and the ability to be equipped with a 35 horsepower motor only helps to reveal its full potential. It is not cheap, however, due to the premium class, it would be wrong to operate with this as a disadvantage.

True, comfortable fishing with such a load is unlikely to work: the most comfortable, from the point of view of users, is the simultaneous presence of no more than 5 people in the boat. Visually, it looks great and comes in six color variations. It is expensive, but in terms of price / quality it outperforms almost any competitor.

The Yukona 400 TS is an extremely large boat with a capacity of up to 6 people, with a dead weight of 89 kilograms. It is heavy to transport and takes up a lot of space, but it has one very important advantage over competitors: the high density of the five-layer PVC material (at the level of 1100 g / m2). In order to ensure greater reliability of the structure, the outer part of the 50 cm cylinders is protected by a fender and a splash guard. All seams are welded and additionally glued, which also adds strength.

The total carrying capacity of the Yukona 400 TS was 800 kilograms, which is very good for a 4-meter boat. It can be equipped with motors for 30 horsepower, which develop a speed equal to 70 kilometers per hour. A very suitable option for the summer season, costly, but capable of serving faithfully for up to 20 years … if you look after it well. “Riviera Maxima” 3400 SK combines excellent appearance and high quality of finishing, for which it is awarded almost the highest demand among all representatives of this category. True, the Compact model is in use, and that's only because the prices for the full-size version are too high.

The diameter of the side of the model is 46 centimeters, and this is quite enough in order to exclude the ingress of water inside. A denser PVC material, reinforced with synthetic and polymer threads, allows (with smaller dimensions) to transport goods with a total weight of up to 650 kilograms: Flinc Boatsman BT365SK, with all due respect, is far from that. And the payol looks much more representative, since its thickness is 12 millimeters. The maximum power of the engine is also at 20 horsepower, and the permissible speed is 50 kilometers per hour.

Flinc Boatsman BT365SK (365 cm)

The peculiarity of this vessel from the Flinc company lies in the visual latitude – in comparison with the Viking VN 360 LS, it looks much larger, although the difference is a few centimeters. An interesting layout coupled with a pleasant design (either graphite orange or camouflage color) makes the Boatsman BT365SK very noticeable against the background of other products, and in terms of characteristics, everything is even very good.

The maximum power of the component engine here is 20 horsepower, which does not seem to be overstated and provides an acceptable speed of movement of a fairly heavy boat (64 kilograms). The hard floor is made of standard plywood with water-repellent impregnation, the thickness of which is 9 millimeters. It is stable, but, as users note, with 4 people in the boat at the same time and increasing pressure on a limited area, it may not withstand. But the carrying capacity of the vessel on 47-centimeter cylinders is 600 kilograms, and the probability of accidental breakdown with such indicators is quite high.

True, the excessive potential of the Viking VN 360 LS very often has to be out of place: sensitivity to waves and excessive yaw along the course can play a cruel joke, up to overturning.

But in everything else, real superiority is felt. The diameter of the balloons was increased to 45 centimeters with a change in their end part to a conical shape, giving eccentricity with respect to the bottom. The displaced center of mass keeps the boat on the water better, making you feel at least some semblance of safety. Due to the increased dimensions in length and width (360×160 centimeters), the carrying capacity was over 500 kilograms – enough not only to accommodate 3 people, but also to lift an impressive arsenal of fishing or hunting equipment on board. There is also a plywood floorboard with a thickness of 9 millimeters, which ensures proper functioning for almost the entire life of the boat.

For example, in the indicator of the maximum power of the component engine – here it is only 6 horsepower. In general, the difference is noticeable, but it appears only with long-distance swims.

The floor of Flinc FT320L “Lux” is lined with 6.5 mm plywood slate like a 'book', but its resource is limited to 3-4 years of use – then you have to look for an alternative. The color variation is limited only to gray and green colors, but by and large no one loses anything, and there is no need to overpay for 'exclusivity'. The only bewilderment among all users who operated this vessel was the fastening of the clamping bar to the inner side of the transom using self-tapping screws. At the same time, their output is hardly 5 millimeters … and no traces of glue or other attempts at additional fixing.

The material of manufacture for this boat is a combination of standard PVC and polyurethane, which better resists scratches (including deep ones), and retains a pleasant appearance longer. The seams are glued, and twice, but the quality does not suffer from this very much. According to internal tests, the Pelican 300 TK is capable of withstanding up to 10-15 years of intensive operation, albeit with periodic maintenance (no one canceled accidental punctures and unusable valves). Other advantages of the Boatmaster 310 T “Lux” are the carrying capacity: with a length and width of 310 and 143 centimeters, respectively, the board can withstand up to 330 kilograms of weight and can accommodate up to 3 passengers. The diameter of the cylinder is 40 centimeters, which creates a roll-over barrier and reduces the portion of water entering the boat. Flinc kindly provides us with either green or gray color schemes, once again confirming the reputation of the most conservative manufacturer in terms of visuals. As for the rest, there is nothing to note – this is a completely ordinary civilian boat with an acceptable price and good performance.

It seems to be not so much, but in single heats the model shows itself quite briskly. Its expected victory was because at the lowest price among its kind, it provides a lot of advantages: 290 kilograms of carrying capacity, the ability to comfortably accommodate two people (plus a lot of space for tackle), the installation of a low-power motor for coastal skiing, and the densest material for the manufacture of cylinders (850 g / m2).

But the most important feature of the Yukona 280 GTK is its shape: it has a keel and, therefore, the model can easily walk on the waves. True, the maximum allowable wave height does not exceed 25 centimeters, since when the threshold is exceeded, water may enter the vessel. AirDeck is provided here for lining the floor, however, due to numerous requests from users, the current model also received a folding plywood floorboard. Yukona 280 GTK definitely deserves respect, at least for being democratic and taking into account all the wishes of potential consumers.

One step away from the leader, another boat made by Flinc stopped – this time we are talking about the Boatmaster SA series, which is referred to as boats with increased carrying capacity. However, official data state that passport capabilities are limited to 220 kilograms – this is the nominal weight for most representatives of this class.

Like all other representatives of Flinc, Boatmaster SA 300 SA “Samurai” can be equipped with a weak motor with a capacity of up to 3.5 horsepower. However, his agility will be enough for a 17-kg vessel with two passengers and a small supply of tackle to move comfortably across the reservoir. The boat was able to reduce its own weight by equipping it with AirDeck, a high-pressure inflatable bottom that is versatile and gives a semblance of a hard floor effect. Otherwise, you can highlight the high quality of assembly, the reliability of glued seams, as well as a full standard equipment with a cover, pump and oars.

The Taimen V-290 ND is a pure rowing model without an optional transom, strong enough for operation in shallow waters and overgrown patches. The density of PVC in it reaches 750 g / m2, but you should be extremely careful when handling sharp objects.

As in the case of the Flinc F280TLA, the V-290 ND has a carrying capacity of 220 kilograms – not enough in terms of nominal indicators, but in real swims you simply stop paying attention to this, since there is a lot of free space, especially with single swims. And this is the main advantage of this boat: it is comfortable, largely due to the inflatable bottom, high sides (40 centimeters), a good landing and many other little things. We can also say about the aesthetics of appearance: even in graphite color, it looks good, not much better than the previous nominees of the rating. It turns out that the only drawback is expressed in the cost – and we are forced to admit that there really is nothing to cover it with.

The fourth place of the Flinc F280TLA is due to the selection of high-quality manufacturing materials, which, in turn, affected the durability and minimization of cases of cylinder penetration by negligence. The carrying capacity, as in the case of the Apache 240, was 220 kilograms … and, to be honest, you can make a claim here.

Among other things, this model is equipped with a removable transom, on which a motor with a power of up to 3.5 horsepower can be attached. Due to its large overall dimensions, it will comfortably fit 2 people with all the necessary cargo, whether it be fishing or hunting accessories. The carrying capacity of the side was an impressive 300 kilograms, however, the cylinders are not distinguished by high strength and density, so you should be extremely careful during operation.

It is noteworthy that the already expanded Pelican kit comes with a full-fledged plywood floor covering, the thickness of which is 9 millimeters. This provides both the ability to stand in the boat without any balancing, and the increased strength of the floor. It is also nice that the diameter of the cylinder is 40 centimeters, which somewhat limits the ingress of water inside, and also increases the safety of users.

The diameter of the cylinder, divided into two independent compartments, is 34 centimeters, so it is practically impossible to exclude the ingress of water inside. And there is no need, since the canvas floor does not allow you to stand comfortably in the boat, therefore, the user's chances of slipping are minimal.

Of the other features of Apache 240, the density of PVC fabric can be distinguished, which is 750 g / m2. Strength indicators do not in the least interfere with the boat from performing its main functions, however, it should be remembered that any awkward movement with sharp objects can lead to a cylinder breakdown. Otherwise, nothing interesting: there is only one color variation, and even that one is in an inconspicuous graphite color. The set includes a special carrying case, as well as duralumin oars 150 centimeters long.
