Due to the abundance of offers, a potential buyer may face a choice problem. To alleviate this situation, the editors of the magazine, together with a full-time expert group, have compiled their own rating of the 16 best ATVs in four main categories. The criteria for selecting nominees for the final list were the resulting assessments of buyers, as well as the conclusions of the working expert group.

This ATV is the smallest of the competitors and uses a 439 cc 40 horsepower engine, which in other situations would be nothing more than a burden, and would be useful only for completing utilitarian models.

Lightweight, but not lost in strength, the construction of the Yamaha YFZ 450 R organically fits the modest performance of the engine, squeezing the most out of a very limited volume. It turns out very well: instant acceleration and maintaining a high speed allows at least not to yield to others on a straight distance, and in turns and even win at the expense of maneuverability. At its core, the BRP Renegade 1000 XXC is the successor to the best sports models with a bias in agility and speed, capable of accelerating to 140 kilometers per hour. These results were achieved thanks to the introduction of an 82-horsepower 800 cubic centimeters engine as a power unit.

It is also noteworthy that the model supports switching from rear-wheel drive to four-wheel drive, in order to provide the necessary conditions for passing particularly difficult sections of the competitive route. The design also includes a configurable Tri-Mode Dynamic PS to help tune the ATV's handling to suit the road conditions. In addition, there are also three-mode shock absorbers operating in three typical patterns defined by the Fox Racing Podium X technology – preload, slow compression, or rebound. The only really big drawback of the model is the high cost, which only wealthy ATV fans and professional athletes can pay.

A little pathos and a lot of smart options – this is how you can describe the Polaris Scrambler XP 1000 EPS 2014 – an ATV that is on the verge of utility and sports models for professional racing series. Until a few years ago Honda the TRX700XX was essentially an innovative ATV model with independent front and rear suspension with spare shock absorbers and double A-arms. This solution made it possible to significantly improve its performance during high-speed passage of sections of rough terrain, smoothing and damping small irregularities on the route as much as possible. The single-cylinder engine with a volume of 686 cubic meters and 56 horsepower has provided excellent acceleration, maneuverability and top speed, allowing it to take part in the elite racing series. For the same purposes, traditionally for Honda, the variator gave way to a 5-speed manual transmission.

In fact, the Honda TRX700XX is suitable for both professional riders and beginners looking to have a fun and exciting time. The ATV's behavior can be described as 'docile' or 'friendly', but the sporty nature is invariably present in every movement.

Cfmoto CF X 10 EPS

The primary purpose of this Chinese ATV can only be guessed by the signs of its appearance – a typical utilitarian sample that will do a good job in suburban areas. However, almost immediately they began to use it as a run-in model for novice athletes who in the near future want to switch to more maneuverable and powerful cars.

The ATV of increased maneuverability of a tourist type, suitable for high-speed crossing of routes with a minimum set of transported cargo. All this is given by the design itself, lightweight to the maximum possible limits: dry weight (without technical fluids and additional body kits) hardly exceeds 280 kilograms. It is not cheap, but it serves for a long time and honestly.

Technical aspects aside, the Polaris Sportsman 800 BIG BOSS 6X6 Forest is the ultimate touring ATV. When collecting and transporting things on serious trips, it will be indispensable, since the front and rear racks can withstand up to 400 kilograms of weight. The closest competitor capable of boasting the same results costs one and a half times more.

Also, the model can tow a trailer with a total weight of up to 680 kilograms, albeit at a minimum speed. But the possible reserves of fuel for the trip are very depressing: the design provides for a tank with a volume of 15.5 liters, which is very modest for tourist four-wheelers. BIG BOSS does not differ in high speed, but this is because the 760cc engine is sharpened to provide more torque for increased tractive effort. In general, the copy is really worthy, and if you are one of the fans of thorough trips to nature, then it will suit you 100%.

Despite the attitude towards utilitarian models, it is felt that the specimen in question was created with an emphasis on tourist and off-road qualities. There is no other way to explain that power reserve through mud and swamps: hunters and fishermen with money in their pockets very willingly prefer the Grizzly.

There are two reasons for this popularity. Firstly, the lightest body among all competitors in the rating, which has not lost its strength in the component. And secondly, a 0.7-liter engine integrated directly with the Raptor 700R, which produced 42 horsepower. Nothing impressive, but the amount of torque allows you to carry trailers with a load of up to 450 kilograms, which is an extremely acceptable result in relation to its own weight. Let's not forget to mention the obligatory all-wheel drive and Yamaha's proprietary reliability, since everything in the aggregate forms an optimal price-quality ratio.

However, for this money, the user gets a utilitarian ATV, which will become a full-fledged replacement for household vehicles, and will also allow you to conquer the most difficult off-road routes. The reason for this lies both in the overall dimensions of the model and in the equipment with the Rotax V Twin two-cylinder engine with a volume of 976 cubic centimeters. In fact, this model is almost the best of its kind: at least, users truly believe in it. The reason for this unquestioning complementarity was the perfect balance of price and quality, which consists in a competent combination of the engine and chassis elements. 44 horsepower allows you to easily carry out transportation work and conquer off-road in case of going hunting or fishing. The base 25-inch wheels provide traction on soft ground, which positively affects flotation. The suspension is moderately soft and tenacious, and the hull has additional reinforcement elements in case of emergencies and possible overturning of the ATV.

When looking at the equipment of the SYM QuadRaider 600 LE, there is a persistent feeling that the model was late with the release by about 5-7 years – some solutions according to the patterns of the current time look frankly losing and outdated. A small and very attractive ATV of the KAYO brand, which took the second place in the rating due to its full commitment to a utilitarian style of operation. It makes no sense to consider it as a serious tractor or conveyor: 180 kilograms of its own weight and 12 horsepower is not what you want to see from a model for gardening. Therefore, BIG BULL is mainly used for local movement and movement of small loads (up to 100 kilograms).

Fuel supply is carried out by means of a carburetor, which cannot be called a plus of the model. The same can be said about the stiffness of the suspension, but here everything is more or less clear: the front shock absorber is unregulated, having a length of 280 millimeters and significantly reducing the damping potential through a coherent action with the rear adjustable monoshock absorbers. The engine is cooled by air-oil, but the brake discs (albeit small) were pleasantly surprised: they have a hydraulic system that helps the user to brake more efficiently. Of the remaining little things, you can also highlight the unexpectedly large 10-liter tank and 10-inch wheels. KAYO BIG BULL costs a little and … who knows, maybe it will be a great addition to your suburban area?

CECTEK Kingcobra 550 EFI T6

Akin to the representatives of the Chinese car industry, CECTEK continues its good tradition of copying – this time the external outlines of the Kingcobra 550 EFI T6 are borrowed from the Yamaha YFZ, but the filling has been changed to be more competitive. So, already the initial configuration offers users many useful options: a built-in winch, 26-inch tires and alloy wheels. The engine is a 44-horsepower single-cylinder four-stroke with a volume of 523 cubic centimeters.

The main design flaw of the CECTEK Kingcobra 550 EFI T6 was the lighter suspension, which killed all the initial positive impression of the model as a whole. It goes into a faulty state extremely quickly: at the beginning of operation, it becomes clear that the ATV was not designed for Russian road conditions. Everything is 'treated' by selecting analogs of parts and customizing the systems to at least some acceptable state. One thing saves: the cost is not as high as in the case of more eminent competitors, which allows maintaining a competitive spirit.
