Video recorders, as well as radar detectors, have long and firmly entered the everyday life of car owners: almost every consumer uses one or another device in his car. However, in the case of using a large number of additions, an ergonomic problem arises: devices begin to take up a lot of space on the panel or windshield, and hidden wiring is not always feasible, as a result of which they also litter the interior.
This problem was solved by simply merging the DVR and the radar detector into one functional device – not always small, but having much fewer connecting wires and not cluttering the front panel of the car. The popularization of these complexes attracted the attention of the editors of the journal, and, through a thorough study of the segment, a rating of the best video recorders with a radar detector was compiled. The final list was formed on the basis of user reviews and expert opinions, and was also divided into three categories by price.

The best inexpensive dvrs with radar detector
CARCAM COMBO 5S
Rating: 4.8
CARCAM COMBO 5S is a video recorder containing as many as four functional additions: from the notorious radar detector to GPS informer, tracker (GPS / GLONASS) and a full-fledged GSM modem. Shooting here is conducted in SuperHD resolution (2304×1296 pixels per inch) with a viewing angle of 160 degrees at 30 frames per second. Responsible for this is the 3-megapixel OmniVision OV4689 matrix, which is capable of recording high-quality video even in the dark (thanks to the presence of the night shooting function).
An important plus for both users and experts was the presence of a second video camera, which can be directed to the salon or (with minor manipulations) mounted on the rear window to facilitate the parking process. The built-in detector of the model has lost in the number of detected radars, but has noticeably “grown” in the quality of this action. To expand the internal memory CARCAM COMBO 5S can be equipped with microSD-cards with a capacity of up to 128 GB – no competitor has such capabilities. In conclusion, we note one more small, but very pleasant nuance: the DVR is equipped with its own 500 mAh battery, thanks to which it can work autonomously for a long time.
Advantages
- multifunction device;
- The optimum ratio of price and quality;
- 3-megapixel sensor with the possibility of high-quality night shooting;
- SuperHD video resolution;
- microSD support for 128 GB.
disadvantages
- angular design.
Artway MD-102 Combo 3 in 1
Rating: 4.7
The second line of the rating goes to the improved model MD-102 by Artway, which has incorporated a number of positive changes relative to the version described below MD-101. In particular, this is an updated 2-megapixel CMOS-matrix, which significantly improved the quality of shooting. Which immediately affected the resolution of the final video file: 1920 x 1080 pixels per inch. At the same time, the viewing angle, as well as the frame rate, remained unchanged: 140 degrees and 30 frames per second, respectively.
The part responsible for the detection of signals from the radar complexes has not changed either: it still operates on as many as 20 signals, detects them at a distance of up to 1500 meters and actively monitors the action of the signal 'in the back'. Among other things, the engineers integrated into Artway MD-102 and a GPS module with an informant, a G-sensor and a motion sensor in the frame. The operating temperature indicators have also “grown”: the modernized model is capable of withstanding from -25 to +70 degrees Celsius, which in many respects has added to its solidity. But perhaps the most pleasant thing is the level of cost. All other things being equal, the MD-102 received the same price tag as the MD-101, which earned it popularity with enterprising buyers.
Advantages
- favorable combination of quality and price;
- extended range of recommended operating temperatures;
- presence of motion and shock sensors;
- video quality increased to FullHD (compared to MD-101).
disadvantages
- still weak implementation of radar detection.
SHO-ME Combo No. 1
Rating: 4.6
On the third line of the rating is a video recorder of purely Chinese origin, which implements a rather modest built-in potential by 100%. SHO-ME Combo # 1 can be generally considered a phenomenon among other models, since only it has a 5-megapixel matrix, albeit limited to 120 degrees of view. This matrix allows you to take acceptable pictures even at night, without any hardware LED or IR illumination. The quality of the original video is limited Full HD and the frame rate does not exceed 30 frames per second.
In addition to the 'chips' of the camera in the DVR, one can note the presence of a G-sensor and a motion sensor, as well as a built-in GPS module. As for the SHO-ME Combo # 1 detector, the most interesting function in it is the GPS informant. The number of detected complexes has been reduced to six, and in this category this is the worst result. However, the triggering processes are implemented quite competently and efficiently, and therefore the capture accuracy does not cause indignation (as in the case of Artway MD-101).
Advantages
- acceptable price;
- high-quality implementation of the radar detection function;
- 520 mAh built-in battery charge;
- rather neat appearance – good workmanship;
- works in the temperature range from -20 to +40 degrees Celsius.
disadvantages
- a modest set of received signals from radar complexes.
Artway MD-161 Combo 3 in 1
Rating: 4.5
The second iteration towards Artway's 'ideal' DVR took over the concept of a rearview mirror with built-in radar detector and standard GPS module. Unlike the previous reviewed version, MD-161 has a 5-inch display and can shoot video in the format Full HD (1920×1080). In this case, the shooting frequency is appropriate 25 frames per second, and the capture is carried out by a 2-megapixel CMOS matrix. A time-lapse mode has appeared, the resolution of one image in which can be 3264×2448 pixels per inch.
While almost everything was fixed on the part of the DVR in Artway MD-161, the radar detector 'migrated' straight from the old versions. The same 20 interacting radars, 1500 meters of detection range and reaction to the work of sources 'behind the lines', plus a small optimization of triggering. In principle, the DVR performs the decorating functions well, but some users have questions about the mount. Add to this the inability of the recorder to record video at night (without the backlight, the camera is 'covered' with grain) – and we will stop there.
Advantages
- noticeably improved quality of daytime shooting (in comparison with Artway MD-101);
- the presence of a photo mode with a resolution of 3264×2448 dpi;
- acceptable price;
- high quality body assembly.
disadvantages
- there is not enough backlight for night photography;
- the mount does not always clearly fix the mirror from displacement.
Artway MD-101 Combo 3 in 1
Rating: 4.4
A standard arm mount DVR, the first of three Artway representatives in the category. Differs in high resistance to mechanical stress and vibration loads, as well as a waterproof case. Equipped with a 1-megapixel CMOS sensor, which allows you to shoot at night only when there is a backlight. The maximum resolution of the captured video is limited to 1280×720 pixels per inch, and the frame rate does not exceed 30 per second.
As noted by users, the Artway MD-101 video recorder pleases with a wide viewing angle (140 degrees), as well as the presence of a built-in radar detector (with 20 detectable radars) and four operating range modes. Its detection range is 1.5 kilometers, and the reaction can also follow to objects that work in the back. The third integrated function of the combo recorder is expressed in the presence of a GPS-module – not the most interesting solution, so there is not much to talk about here. Otherwise, the system is a typical solution, which, nevertheless, is worthy of purchase and a line in the rating of the best.
Advantages
- The optimum ratio of price and quality;
- the presence, albeit a small, display (2 inches);
- acceptable picture quality during daylight hours;
- GPS module.
disadvantages
- the detector does not always work correctly: it notifies about non-existent signal sources and does not react to known working radars;
- poor resolution of the matrix – not suitable for shooting at night.
The best DVRs in terms of price-quality ratio
Neoline X-COP 9700
Rating: 4.9
The undisputed leader in terms of appearance is the Neoline X-COP 9700 video recorder – the most expensive, but at the same time the closest in functionality to direct competitors in terms of rating. Indeed, in this model it is impossible to find something that would not have been implemented in other representatives of the category: video recording occurs in resolution Full HD at 30 frames per second with a viewing angle of 137 degrees. The only difference here is the duration of the recorded clips – 1, 2, 3 and 5 minutes to choose from, which is not available to all combo recorders.
The Neoline X-COP 9700 radar detector is also not exclusive, but it qualitatively performs the functions of monitoring the appearance of tracking devices on the air. The DVR is controlled by a touchscreen display with a diagonal of 2.8 inches. The implemented support for memory cards allows you to expand volumes up to 64 gigabytes, which is not so much compared to the same Inspector SCAT Se. But the operating temperature indicators are pleasing: from -20 to +70 degrees Celsius, which determines the applicability of the DVR in the regions of Siberia.
Advantages
- attractive case design;
- the presence of touch control;
- good, albeit not ideal, video shooting parameters;
- the device is capable of withstanding temperatures from -20 to +70 degrees Celsius.
disadvantages
- not found.
Playme P550 TETRA
Rating: 4.8
One of the few mid-range radars that has received an overwhelming majority of positive ratings (approximately 97%) from users. Playme P550 TETRA can really be called a flagship in terms of price / quality ratio, since the entire set of functions is well implemented here, as well as issues with fastening, housing tightness and durability. In fact, the working system of this model is a complete copy of that of Inspector SCAT Se, with the only difference that the frame rate here is 30 per second (instead of 24), and the viewing angle is reduced to 140 degrees.
The number of detectable Playme P550 TETRA radars is limited to seven, and the detection range does not exceed 1000 meters. Modestly against the background of the rest, but there are no false alarms at all: the audio indication of the captured range is turned on only when it is really needed (and not when it pleases). The internal memory for saving video files can be expanded by only 64 GB, but you are guaranteed not to get freezes and freezes when loading it. Perhaps, from the entire list of technical characteristics, the only disadvantage is the minimum operating temperature threshold, which is 0 degrees Celsius.
Advantages
- very high-quality implementation of video shooting functions;
- 'tenacious' detector of radar complexes, unmistakably indicating the presence of frequencies (X, Ka, K);
- The optimum ratio of price and quality;
- nice and laconic design.
disadvantages
- minimum threshold of the recommended operating temperature.
SHO-ME COMBO SMART SIGNATURE
Rating: 4.7
Unlike previous competitors, the SHO-ME COMBO SMART SIGNATURE DVR is not criticized for the operation of a standard radar detector – the main nuances here are associated solely with the ease of mounting. The maximum possible shooting resolution in the model is limited Full HD – quality, as well as the angle of view hardly reaches 135 degrees. Which, however, does not prevent it from surpassing the Inspector SCAT Se, if only because the 4-megapixel OmniVision 4689 matrix here has support for night mode. Video processing is given to a slightly less 'strong' Ambarella A12A processor, which does its job perfectly well.
Largely due to the abandonment of the desire to please everyone and immediately, the SHO-ME COMBO SMART SIGNATURE dashcam focused on the implementation of the optimal set of functions. So, in the number of detected radars there were only 8 models, to which the detector responds regularly and soundly. There is no motion sensor, but there is a G-sensor and a GPS-informant: the first responds perfectly to mechanical shocks, and the second notifies about the current traffic data. This DVR is a little expensive, but in terms of quality and durability, the benefits are obvious.
Advantages
- excellent quality of imagery, GPS-information and radar detector;
- the presence of a night mode;
- high build quality, pleasant appearance;
- wide range of operating temperatures (-20 … + 70 degrees Celsius).
disadvantages
- a modest set of implemented functions.
Inspector SCAT Se
Rating: 4.6
A fairly functional video recorder with signature technology for detecting radar kits, which has received many compliments for the high quality of video recording. The matrix is played by a 4-megapixel OmniVision OV4689 – without backlight, but with a fairly high-quality work in the dark. The processor is Ambarella A12A35, which has proven itself well in video recording systems. Thanks to this set of elements, the maximum recording resolution reached 2304×1296 pixels per inch (SuperHD), the viewing angle increased to 170 degrees at a frequency of 30 frames per second.
The Inspector SCAT Se is operated using a 3.5-inch touchscreen: the abandonment of buttons allowed the device to take on a more organic look. As for the radar detector, its action extends to only 10 known and widely used complexes, as well as two standard ranges (X and K). The detection range is 1200 meters, and the sensor's 'view' angle is only 180 degrees. Other positive aspects include support for memory cards up to 256 gigabytes, as well as a built-in 520 mAh battery, which allows the device to work without being connected to the on-board network in case a G-sensor or a motion sensor in the frame is triggered.
Advantages
- quality indicators of shooting at a high level;
- the presence of a touch screen;
- the ability to expand the internal memory using a 256 GB card;
- a capacious built-in battery that allows the device to work autonomously when automatically turned on to trigger sensors.
disadvantages
- there are problems with the detection of radars by a standard detector.
SilverStone F1 HYBRID EVO S
Rating: 4.5
One of the highest quality video recorders with anti-radar function, the maximum shooting resolution in which reaches 2304×1296 pixels per inch (SuperHD). This result became available thanks to the integration of the 4-megapixel OmniVision OV4689 matrix, and the smoothness and seamlessness of the video due to the presence of the AIT8328Q chipset. At the same time, the viewing angle does not exceed 140 degrees, and the frame rate at maximum quality even refers us to devices 15 years ago: 24 frames per second.
The detector in the SilverStone F1 HYBRID EVO S is well implemented, but also not devoid of small nuances. A number of models from the total number of produced ones have a hardware error, as a result of which, with the combined action of factors, the detector falls into an 'inadequate' state, registering the K-band even where there are virtually no sources. Moreover, with the rest of the frequency ranges (Ka, X), the work goes well. In full 'health' the radar detector is capable of detecting 12 of the most popular radar systems, such as Strelka, Robot, AMATA, etc. The operating temperature range of the DVR also forms a pleasant impression: from -20 to +70 degrees Celsius, the hardware endures without any problem. Of course, the cost factor can scare off potential buyers, but you should be sure: it fully corresponds to the quality indicators.
Advantages
- good video quality (SuperHD);
- recommended for use in temperatures from -20 to +70 degrees Celsius;
- nice design.
disadvantages
- the detector may 'crash' on K-band detection.
Best DVRs in the premium segment
Neoline X-COP R750
Rating: 4.9
The first line of the rating goes to the Neoline X-COP R750 video recorder, which combines stylish design, an abundance of functions and proper performance of duties for detecting radars. Moreover, what is very important, the detector and the camera are two devices connected by one communication channel.
Shooting in this model takes place in the resolution Full HD (1920×1080) with a frequency of 30 frames per second, and the final file is saved in the MOV format. At the same time, the viewing angle is a modest 135 degrees, but with a more detailed setting, this nuance can be leveled. Of all the variety of radar complexes, only 6 are captured by the device (Strelka, Cordon and the like), but without obvious hardware problems and false positives. But the most important advantage, according to users, is the integration of the wi-fi module into Neoline X-COP R750, with which it becomes possible to control the recorder from the phone. There are standard shock and motion sensors, an informant and a navigator, the ability to expand the device's memory by 128 gigabytes and a connector for a GPS module. In general, an excellent multifunctional device, worthy of purchase even for such a serious price.
Advantages
- the ability to control the device from a smartphone via wi-fi;
- high quality of a stock camera;
- the detector and the video recorder are divided into two connected blocks (increases the reliability of the system);
- the ability to install microSD for 128 GB;
- very bright design;
- optimal combination of price and quality.
disadvantages
- not found.
ARENA PRO 9900
Rating: 4.8
An expensive video recorder for replacing the standard rear-view mirror, which occupies the second line in the rating of premium devices. Its functionality is a combination of video recording with parallel tracking of radars, navigation via GPS and even an implemented parking sensors function. This became possible due to the presence of an additional camera in the configuration, which can be adapted both in the cabin (in front, pointing at the passengers, or behind the glass), and even take it out somewhere outside it.
In terms of the shooting function, the ARENA PRO 9900 video recorder is slightly inferior to its direct competitors, since the 2-megapixel matrix in the device looks too budgetary. Nevertheless, the maximum resolution of the resulting picture is 1920 x 1080 pixels per inch, which is enough for detailing each individual shooting episode. But what positively distinguishes the model from a number of others is a large five-inch display with a built-in sensor, which greatly facilitates control. In addition, it is worth noting the extremely wide range of permissible temperatures: from -40 to +80 degrees Celsius, which is truly unattainable for competitors.
Advantages
- having your own OS;
- 5-inch touchscreen display;
- very wide range of operating temperatures (-40 … + 80 degrees Celsius);
- the presence of a second camera in the kit.
disadvantages
- not found.
Neoline X-COP 9100s
Rating: 4.7
An interesting complex solution to the problems of navigation, radar detection and video registration, the biggest drawback of which, according to consumers, is the cost level. Neoline X-COP 9100s gives the impression of a very 'nimble' hybrid device capable of performing all assigned functions without any complaints and extremely quickly. Apart from the absence of a wi-fi module, we can say that the model is fully equipped with additional functions: here is the most complete display of information on the date and speed of movement, and the presence of GPS / GLONASS, and even the implemented night shooting mode.
It is difficult to comprehend, but the high cost of Neoline X-COP 9100s is partially justified by the use of top-class components. For example, instead of mid-budget matrices a la OmniVision, engineers have integrated a premium Sony matrix into the model, which can significantly improve the quality of the final picture. If we talk about the detector, then two things can be distinguished here:
- more than 20 detectable radars;
- range of more than 2500 meters.
There is also a whole set of sensors and a GPS informer, 2 slots for a memory card (up to 128 gigabytes) and the ability to mount on a bracket (or tape).
Advantages
- the ability to install two memory cards (up to 128 GB each);
- the range of the radar is 2.5 kilometers;
- there is a GPS / GLONASS module;
- high quality shooting in the daytime and at night.
disadvantages
- high price.
Street Storm STR-9970BT Wifi
Rating: 4.6
A premium video recorder of utilitarian external design, which took the fourth line of the rating for the totality of implemented chips and the quality of the shooting mode taken separately. The 4-megapixel OmniVision OV4689 matrix, which migrated straight from the middle segment, provided the ability to record video content with SuperHD resolution, and the Ambarella A7LA50D chipset – seamless and smooth stream processing. The viewing angle of the built-in lens here was 170 degrees, and the frame rate did not exceed 30 per second, although for a premium manufacturer could have tried.
The Street Storm STR-9970BT radar detector is able to distinguish about 10 frequency signals from the most common complexes (Strelka, Radis, AMATA, etc.), and do this at a distance of up to 2000 meters. There is a shock and motion sensor, as well as a built-in wi-fi module, thanks to which it is easy and convenient to control the recorder directly through a smartphone. In addition, a GPS informant will also have to be in place, informing the user in real time about certain traffic conditions (the presence of registered cameras, voice duplication of signs, etc.). As for the rest, there is nothing special to highlight – the model is interesting, but costly enough.
Advantages
- implemented the function of controlling the DVR via wi-fi connection with a smartphone;
- the detection range is 2 kilometers;
- high quality shooting and a wide angle of view of the camera (170 degrees).
disadvantages
- high price;
- not the best visual performance.
