The most important technical fluid for a motorcycle engine is engine oil. Stability and durability of the engine depends on the correct choice of lubricant. In the manual for each bike, the manufacturer indicates the type and viscosity of the lubricant, as well as its volume and replacement interval. Sometimes recommendations are made on the use of a specific model, but more often a fairly wide range of lubricants is allowed. Therefore, expert help in choosing a motorcycle oil will not be superfluous.

Recommendations for choosing a motorcycle engine oil

Types of motor oils. Motor vehicles are equipped with two types of internal combustion engines.

1. Two-stroke motors are installed on scooters and light motorcycles. The oil is added to the gasoline, after which the mixture is poured into the fuel tank. Therefore, a number of requirements are imposed on the lubricant, starting with the usual characteristics (friction coefficient, detergency, oxidation resistance) and ending with the speed of mixing with gasoline. The proportions for the preparation of the fuel mixture are given in the motor vehicle operating manual. Usually one part of oil is added to 40-50 parts of gasoline.
2. Most modern motorcycles are equipped with four-stroke engines. Engine oil is poured into the engine just like in cars. One of the main requirements for a lubricant is the preservation of all properties during its service life, that is, until a scheduled replacement.

Oil base. Motorcycles can be filled with oil made using one of three technologies.

1. The simplest and most affordable is a mineral-based grease. Synthetic additives are introduced into refined petroleum products, their symbiosis gives a high-quality product. It can also be poured into the transmissions of motor vehicles. Mineral water is suitable for seasonal (warm season) operation of motorcycles.
2. In semisynthetics, the share of synthetic compounds reaches 50%. This lubricating fluid maintains a stable viscosity even in light frost. It is recommended to use semi-synthetics in engines with a small cylinder volume. Also, experts advise switching to this type of oil when the engine reaches old age and the problem of burnout becomes acute.
3. Synthetic oil is made not only from petroleum, but also from natural gas. Moreover, the “gas” version is considered a real 100% synthetics. Manufacturers produce both universal products that can be poured into any motorcycle equipment, and highly specialized (for example, for racing bikes). The main disadvantage of such a lubricant is its high price.
4. Features of standards for motorcycle oil. Since 1998, the JASO T 903 standard has been in effect, which sets out the requirements for engine oil for motorcycles. This primarily applies to lubricants for 4-stroke engines. A distinctive feature from automotive products is the wet clutch test. In 2006, the standard was updated, if the material has not passed the certification of the Japanese organization JASO, it cannot be recommended for use in motorcycles.

Domestic users are satisfied with the technical characteristics of the Spanish grease, at an affordable price. But the product is rarely found in the trading network of the country.

Owners of scooters and mopeds speak flatteringly about the affordable price, decent quality and the absence of fakes on the Russian market. The downside is that users consider disgusting containers, in which the filler neck is often damaged.

The clutch also works smoothly, there are no jerks when shifting gears.

Despite its good technical parameters and reasonable price, Japanese oil is not widely used in Russia. Of the minuses, a sharp darkening can be distinguished after several thousand runs.

The disadvantages of users include low brand awareness in Russia. But there are no counterfeits on the domestic market yet.
