Best Camping Sleeping Bags
Alexika summer wide plus
Rating: 5.0
Let's be honest: Alexika Summer Wide Plus is the best camping sleeping bag on the market right now. Yes, he has a large weight, equal to about 2.2 kilograms. Yes, folded dimensions also do not facilitate ergonomic transport (33×25 centimeters). However, everything from the top layer to the last lock is made with a great deal of thoughtfulness, which is much more important than transportation comfort.
In fact, Summer Wide Plus is the first and last full-length single-wide bag, making it easy to wrap around like a standard blanket. It is designed to be 195 centimeters tall with a decent 100 centimeter headroom at the shoulders and legs. The outer and inner sides of the cladding here are made of a standard set of polyester fabrics (190T and 190T Diamond RipStop), but between them is not quite a typical cotton 'interlayer' with APF-Isoterm 3D insulation 200 (2×100) g / m2.
Now let's move on to the most important thing. Despite the fact that this sleeping bag is positioned as a purely summer camping model, its thermal resistance limit ends at -13 degrees Celsius, and the range of comfortable temperatures ranges from 2-7 degrees. And if you consider that the cost of this sleeping bag is commensurate with the Husky Mini, questions about the legality of awarding the first place will disappear by itself.
Advantages
- great price;
- high quality finishes and materials used;
- powerful insulation designed for significant temperature changes;
- very large dimensions when unfolded (under the height of 195 centimeters).
disadvantages
- large weight (leveled by good heat resistance indicators).
Marmot NanoWave 45 Reg
Rating: 4.9
In terms of performance, the Marmot NanoWave 45 Reg almost completely copies its opponent, the Husky Mini, differing from that only in a more modest range of comfortable temperatures. Both lining layers of the bag-cocoon are made of water-repellent polyester, not articulated with a membrane material to ensure effective one-sided moisture removal from the inside. However, this is not so important for a summer sleeping bag …
… such as the weights, with which the Marmot NanoWave 45 Reg is doing just fine. When folded, its dimensions are equal to 28×15 centimeters, at which the increase in the weight of the backpack will be only 820 grams. In terms of unfolded dimensions, this sleeping bag is designed for people up to 183 centimeters tall, giving a large space for the shoulder girdle and legs (about 80 and 50 centimeters, respectively). Being identical to the aforementioned competitor, the NanoWave 45 Reg still wins over it due to the lower price, for which it takes an honorable second place in the final rating.
Advantages
- attractive price;
- light weight (only 820 grams);
- high quality finishes;
- good selection of overall dimensions.
disadvantages
- mediocre temperature indicators.
Husky Mini (2008)
Rating: 4.8
A complete Husky camping sleeping bag rated for excellent workmanship and performance. Despite the 'Mini' prefix, this sleeping bag has a very solid stock of length and width (220x85x52 centimeters), which makes it versatile for consumers of different heights and builds. The comfort range here varies from 8 to 12 degrees Celsius, while the extreme temperature value is close to -3 degrees. Such indicators may not be a great salvation from possible cold weather in the early spring and late autumn periods, but they will definitely be beneficial.
As consumers note, despite more than 10 years of production history, the Husky Mini has not lost its relevance, but has significantly added in value terms. However, you shouldn't make a big problem out of the current price – in relation to quality, this purchase looks one of the most promising, even among modern competitors.
Advantages
- good performance characteristics;
- high-quality finishing of the bag with nylon and filling with dense synthetic insulation;
- high quality workmanship;
- optimal overall dimensions.
disadvantages
- not the most extensive set of temperature indicators.
Tramp night life
Rating: 4.7
The main focus of the manufacturer in this sleeping bag was made to provide comfort while minimizing the 'cost' of heat retention properties. It turned out well: in any case, Night Life will be a very good companion on nearby hikes on warm summer days. But how is comfort provided here? While other models (take the same Mersey for example) use nylon as the inner fabric, here they used soft flannel. In addition, siliconeized holofiber, used as a dense filler, adds convenience.
From the point of view of temperature regimes, Night Life is somewhat inferior to other competitors, first of all, in the extreme mark. Here it is equal to 0 degrees Celsius, which limits the use of the mattress in the conditions of late autumn and early spring. But the price parameter, on the contrary, is the most 'tasty' in the segment: the savings from such a purchase will be at least 2,000 rubles. Excellent result and, as a result, getting into the rating of the best.
Advantages
- attractive cost;
- high degree of comfort (holofiber as filler, nylon and flannel on the cladding);
- calculation for growth up to 190 centimeters.
disadvantages
- large weight (2.2 kilograms) with a weak heat preservation function.
Best trekking sleeping bags
Deuter Astro 250
Rating: 4.9
Very lightweight yet cold-resistant, Deuter is the recognized leader in the summer trekking sleeping bag segment. The Astro 250 differs from its closest competitors, first of all, by its sharpening for keeping heat at temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius with a rather modest range of comfortable marks. This is facilitated by careful selection of materials aimed at maximum retention of heat inside the cocoon while simultaneously removing excess moisture ('breathing' function). The role of insulation in this case is played by natural fluff, certified according to the RDS standard.
The overall dimensions of the Deuter Astro 250 are designed for people with a height of 1.8-1.85 meters and a shoulder girdle width (at maximum speed) up to 75 centimeters. It is also noteworthy that with such a brilliant performance of the function of keeping heat, this sleeping bag weighs less than all the others: it accounts for only 820 grams. This is an excellent indicator of weight for a long and long hike, associated with various kinds of route difficulties.
Advantages
- very low weight (820 grams);
- good heat retention inside (up to an extreme temperature of -10 degrees Celsius);
- high quality workmanship (stuffing from natural down);
- optimal overall dimensions in unfolded and folded states.
disadvantages
- not identified.
Alexika Megalight
Rating: 4.8
The Alexika Megalight Kilogram Cocoon Bag is the perfect choice for summer tourism, but it does the job of 'insulating liner' equally well for the harsher winter expeditions. Designed for people of average height (180 centimeters), providing comfortable conditions for placing the shoulder girdle and legs (the width of the first and second measurement sites is 80 and 55 centimeters, respectively).
Just like in any other bags from Alexika, Megalight uses the principle of combination of conceptual technologies Soft Space and Protective Shell, which allows a comprehensive approach to solving problems of comfort and protection during long hikes of any level of complexity. As the outer and inner lining fabric, we used 210T RipStop nylon and Soft Micro Polyester 300T Diamond RipStop, which have a water-repellent and moisture-wicking effect. To fill the bag, manufacturers used Hi-Isoterm Technofiber 1.5D synthetic filling, the density of which is 80 g / m3. Thanks to this selection of materials, it was possible to achieve, perhaps, the most important characteristic of the bag, namely, excellent temperature conditions, which allow it to effectively withstand temperatures down to -7 degrees Celsius.
Advantages
- optimal price characteristics;
- bag weight (1 kilogram);
- temperature modes (comfort – + 11 ° C, limit – + 7 ° C, extreme – -7 ° C);
- high quality workmanship;
- compact transport dimensions.
disadvantages
- not detected.
Tramp mersey
Rating: 4.8
An inexpensive trekking sleeping bag belongs to the category of summer equipment designed for use in freezing temperatures down to 0 degrees Celsius. It copes well with the functions of providing comfort and protection from natural factors, for which a large number of domestic tourists are rightfully used. With dimensions of 230x80x55 centimeters, its weight is only 850 grams, which is achieved due to the use of light synthetic fabric in the production. Tramp Mersey lining and lining are made of nylon, which is water repellent (40D 300T Diamond RipStop) and breathable (210T Taffeta). As for the padding, it uses the standard Tramp material ProLite Extrafil Q7, the density of which is 1х85 g / m2.
Despite the abundance of advantages, users have one big complaint concerning, first of all, the rigid seasonality of the sleeping bag. The fact is that spending the night at temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius in it is a very unpleasant and risky activity. Thus, Tramp Mersey can only be used in summer and late spring / early autumn conditions, unlike its more heat-resistant direct competitors.
Advantages
- light weight (850 grams) and transport dimensions (29x18x18 centimeters);
- low cost;
- good appearance, quality materials of workmanship;
- durability of use (subject to the rules of operation).
disadvantages
- very limited temperature modes (comfort – + 14 ° C, limit – + 8 ° C, extreme – 0 ° C).
Best Expedition Sleeping Bags for Winter Hiking
Husky proud
Rating: 4.9
The Husky Proud sleeping bag represents the 'sweet spot' among all the models reviewed, for which it naturally gets such a high place in the ranking of the best. Its positive features are not only a neat appearance, but also optimal dimensions, coupled with nominal temperature conditions. The length of the customized 'cocoon' is 215 centimeters, while the width of the shoulder girdle and at the legs is 85 and 52 centimeters, respectively. Such indicators will make it possible for most consumers to squeeze into a sleeping bag, as well as reliably isolate the heat inside thanks to a well-chosen tie system.
As for the temperature regimes, the peak user comfort is reached within -13 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the polyester-nylon lining with synthetic insulation allows you to keep warm up to -29 degrees (extreme point) – if this threshold is exceeded, the bag will be ineffective. In terms of transportation, the Husky Proud also performs well: the 2.25kg weight won't be a big deal for an experienced freight forwarder. The only nuance standing in the way of a thoughtless purchase is the level of cost. However, this feature is typical for all products of the Husky trademark, so you shouldn't blame a single model for being too expensive.
Advantages
- optimal combination of price and quality;
- optimal temperature indicators (suitable for the autumn-spring season);
- ideal overall dimensions of the bag (215x85x52 centimeters);
- quite light weight (2.25 kilograms).
disadvantages
- not found.
Alexika Aleut
Rating: 4.8
The main feature of this spacious winter sleeping bag from Alexika is the combination of two important concepts: creating full-fledged protection against various negative factors and ensuring the most comfortable conditions of use. The first factor rests on the Protective Shell technology – a comprehensive approach to the production of the liner, which includes work on the moisture-repellent, windproof and at the same time 'breathable' functions of the bag. The second concept successfully uses Soft Space technology, which combines both the elements of forming a 'cocoon', taking into account all anthropometric features, and the selection of materials for its interior decoration.
As for the overall characteristics, here Alexika Aleut presents several surprises at once. Firstly, its width (in the shoulder girdle) is an impressive 95 centimeters, which is very good for the harsh winter period. Secondly, the length of the bag is limited to 190 centimeters – seemingly modest, but the vast majority of consumers will fit. Perhaps the only drawback of this sleeping bag is its large mass: without providing an impressive increase in extreme temperatures (-26 degrees Celsius), it weighs 3.4 kilograms. For example, the same Tramp oimyakon has a mass of 1.8 kilograms, demonstrating identical temperature indicators.
Advantages
- a successful 'fusion' of two conceptual technologies, guaranteeing maximum comfort and protection;
- good overall performance (190×95 centimeters);
- acceptable level of cost;
- the ability to keep temperatures down to -26 degrees Celsius.
disadvantages
- quite large weight (3.4 kilograms).
Tramp oimyakon
Rating: 4.7
A trekking sleeping bag for the fall-spring period, which got into the rating due to a large number of positive reviews about use. It has a rather rigid range of comfort temperature (from -6 to -11 degrees Celsius), but it can easily withstand extreme cold up to -25 degrees Celsius. These results are achieved thanks to the use of high quality synthetic materials:
- for external cladding: 40D 300T Diamond RipStop nylon fabric;
- for interior: 210T Taffeta;
- for filler: synthetics ProLite Extrafil Q7 with a density of about 2×145 g / m2.
In terms of dimensions, Tramp Oimyakon is suitable for the vast majority of users: despite the standard widths (no more than 55 centimeters at the feet, and no more than 80 centimeters at the shoulders), the bag is 2.3 meters long, which gives a large margin of free space. Pulls, slings and various lockers located around the entire perimeter of the 'cocoon' allow maximum isolation of the interior space, ensuring reliable heat retention inside.
Advantages
- competent system for the location of puffs, slings and locks;
- ease of transportation (weight is only 1.8 kilograms);
- withstands temperatures down to -25 degrees Celsius;
- quite low price.
disadvantages
- not found.
Marmot CWM MemBrain Reg
Rating: 4.7
Sleeping bag in the shape of an anatomical cocoon, designed to keep warm in extremely low temperatures, which is both a 'highlight' and its main drawback. Natural goose down FP 800+ was used here as a filler, the weight of which (without the rest of the trim) is almost 1250 grams. Thanks to such a significant 'layer' and the use of dense nylon for the inner and outer skin (with 'breathable' membranes), the Marmot CWM MemBrain Reg has shown the ability to withstand up to -60 degrees Celsius, which has become a real boon for polar explorers and their long expeditions.
Much to the regret of ordinary winter tourism enthusiasts, in standard low temperatures this sleeping bag will not be so comfortable. The fact is that the peak of its comfortable temperature falls at -40 degrees Celsius, and therefore it will be very hot at higher temperatures. There are no more complaints about the Marmot CWM MemBrain Reg: in other aspects, this sleeping bag manifests itself from an exceptionally good side, for which it deserves an honorable place in the ranking of the best.
Advantages
- 'honest' temperature regimes (comfort is achieved at the designated mark of -40 degrees Celsius);
- the presence of additional pockets for placing devices;
- high-quality finishing, competent arrangement of lockers and fasteners;
- very comfortable shape.
disadvantages
- quite high price;
- a low level of comfort with the difference between the steady-state temperature regime and the declared values.
